Has anyone got any experience on this topic?

I've tried to play XviD + HE-AAC on a P3 866 and I'm getting jerky playback
Is this expected?
Decoding XviD with ffdshow, AAC with CoreAAC
When playing secondary audio stream containing LC-AAC playback is almost fine though, getting jerky briefly only on bitrate peaks

did you try the autocontrol in postprocess setting??
it can help

btw which bitrate has been used for your encoding??

if the xvid bitrate is too high....(>1500 can be "overkill" :-))

Playing XviD (656x480, 1100 kbps, 2B-VOPs, no GMC and QPEL) + 2 HE-AAC in mkv with ffdshow-20040607a (libavcodec, PP off), CoreAAC and MPC takes about 30-40 % of CPU usage on my 1.8->2 GHz P4.

damrod: no I didn't. I thought post processing off would be less demanding on cpu? :confused:
Video bitrate is around 1300kbps avg

pogo stick: a P4 1.8 is not exactly my idea of minimum :)

Oh, sorry. Somehow word 'minimum' slipped from my sight. :o
I should sleep longer.
In my justification I can only suggest to theoretically divide the number of GHz. :)

Good news

I overclocked the cpu to 975MHz and the results are:
- MPC 6.4.8.2, VMR9 (renderless) -> jerky playback at times; such inconvenient can be circumvented by setting video renderer to overlay mixer and using vobsub for subtitles. AC3 spdif passthrough with ac3filter is out of question when using vobsub
- BSPlayer 1.0 build 808 plays XviD+HE-AAC just fine on both overlay mode 1 and 2 (overlay mixer); when enabling AC3 spdif passthrough in ac3filter, I had to change rendering to overlay mixer, otherwise playback gets jerky at times. For some unknown reason, I couldn't manage to make vobsub load.

So I guess it's safe to assume that a P3 1GHz is enough to play XviD+HE-AAC with these settings

i think that would be a better topic for this thread
couse the playback needs are totaly different from Os to Os
the minimum on Windows is surely not the same as on a *nix based system especialy not for a embedded system wich is more optimized for such tasks.

i play rv9 at 1Mbits on my duron mobile 1.1GHz good

but on an old p3 500...hard if bitrate > 1000...

HE-AAC track is 5.1
LC-AAC is 2.0

i always thought VMR9 were about the slowest renderer you can use in MPC. At least i thought i came to this conclusion on my systems. When i checked bach now i use overlay, but if you have a windows 2k/xp VMR 7 should still be a bit faster than VMR 9.
If someone could confirm this or correct me and provide some real data..

here (laptop, 1800+ and radeon 9000) when using VMR(7 or 9) for subtitle (too lazzy to install vobsub), my cpu goes up to 100% and hooks up the laptop (yeah...i can't use 100% cpu on this lame laptop -_-). Even with no subtitle it's the same... so i use overlay mixer, which has a "normal" cpu use...about 40%.

On my other computer though, i didn't see any difference using either WMR or OM (hmm fx5900 and amd 2.4ghz ;))
