View Full Version : xvid is flooding debugview

During encoding xvid-1.0.1 is printing for each frame information to debugview. Though one can filter out this unwanted flood, no application should behave this way. Moreover, one gets the same information in the status window if "show me the internals!" is enabled. Please disable this terrible feature!

kassandro,
do you use my build? Or did you compile your own using the debug-configuration?

I think, I took the link from doom9. I either download from there or from your web site - never anywhere else.
I just downloaded XviD-1.0.1-05062004.exe from your site. It has exactly the same name and size as the one I had before. So they seem to be identical. I can't exchange it now, because I am encoding right now.

Confirmed, my build spits out debugview info.
You're the first to complain about that, other people like that for logging purposes....
I'll see what I can do.

I won't mind if you make this feature optional. For instance, if "show me the internals!" is enabled, you may also print it to debugview for logging purposes. Many apps print information to debugview during start up or shut down or if something goes wrong. But if any app would permanently print to debugview, it would be worthless.

klassandro,
you don't quite understand the video coding world.
Since nandub times good codecs/encoding tools spat out (in your terms "flooded") debugview. It's there for tweaking the codec as good as possible.
You are a little fashistic about that, go back to 1999 and complain _there_ where we started the use of debugview for video encoding.
