View Full Version : Looking for bsn.dll v0.2 - DTS to AAC

I lost my copy of bsn.dll v0.2, does anyone have it? It's used for transcoding DTS to AAC. Only v0.2 will work, any version higher (such as the current v0.22) will crash.

I use azidts + besweet.dll b23 + bsn.dll v0.2 for the DTS to AAC transcoding.

i guess u are using this config to keep 48khz sound.

There is a modified version of bsn.dll which accepts presets to circumsize the need to use -config switch. sound stay at 48khz when u use bsn without the -config switch.

Have you tried DTS to AAC transcoding? It's not the same as AC3. Only bsn.dll v0.2 will allow DTS to AAC, I tried the modded version of bsn and the exact same crash as v0.22 appears. Here's the command lines I tried:

"F:\BeSweet\besweet.exe" -core( -input "f:\DVD1\test.dts" -output "f:\DVD1\test-New.mp4" -logfilea "F:\BeSweet\BeSweet.log" ) -bsn( -6chnew -vbr_radio -codecquality_high -aacprofile_he )

Tried using azidst as well:
"F:\BeSweet\azidts.exe" -core( -input "f:\DVD1\test.dts" -output "f:\DVD1\test-New.mp4" -logfilea "F:\BeSweet\BeSweet.log" ) -bsn( -6chnew -vbr_radio -codecquality_high -aacprofile_he )

i made a quick test and there really seems to be a problem

This problem with transcoding from DTS to AAC has been around since dspguru stopped supporting DTS transcoding back in besweet b25+ (about 6 months ago). If you can fix the bsn + azidts + besweet combination problem then that would really make my day.

Here are my notes on DTS to AAC transcoding, I only wrote it down because things got so complicated:

-------------------------------------
The following programs and files are needed:

- Azidts
- bsn.dll v0.2 in same dir with azidts (versions higher than 0.2 will not work)
- dtsac3source.ax (must register it, eg. Start -> Run -> regsvr32 f:\BeSweet\dtsac3source.ax)
- WinDVD installed (4.5 and above, trial versions will work too)
- Nero dlls - Aac.dll, aacenc32.dll (in same dir with azidts)
- BeSweet.dll b.23
- BeSweet b.25 and up (this is different than the dll version)
- optional: BeSweet GUI 0.7b4

-----------------------------------------------------

Notes:

- all the files should be in the same dir, other than WinDVD that can be installed in any path.

- you need a purchased copy of Nero Burning Rom Ultra Edition 6+ to get the nero dlls. After you install Nero, the dlls can be found in this path: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\AudioPlugins\.

- dtsac3source.ax can be found on gabest's project page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/ . Look for the link to "DTS/AC3 Source".

- BeSweet can be found at DSPguru's website: http://dspguru.doom9.net/ . The latest versions (BeSweet b25 and up) and found in the beta section.

- bsn.dll v0.2 is no longer avaliable from DSPguru, all his new versions of BeSweet use bsn.dll v0.22.

- you might need to open WinDVD and set the audio settings to 6 channel output, just to ensure it is decoding 6 channels to the nero encoder.

- when transcoding you should always downsample to 44100 Hz, or else you can end up with a longer AAC file than the original DTS source.

- BeSweet GUI can handle DTS to AAC transcoding, but there are some bugs with the profile settings, eg. forces azidts to maximize. Those profiles are recommended but if you don't like them then use command line, eg:

"F:\BeSweet\azidts.exe" -core( -input "f:\DVD1\test.dts" -output "f:\DVD1\test-New.mp4" -logfilea "F:\BeSweet\BeSweet.log" ) -bsn( -6chnew -config ) -ssrc( --rate 44100 )

i tried it with 2 steps:
dts to wave, wave to aac
second step didn't work

By the way, FAAC accepts PCM and WAV input bitstreams or files (also piped through stdin) with up to 96 kHz sample rate, float sample size and 33.1 channels. Size of libfaac.dll as used in HeadAC3he and winLAME is 60 KB... ;)

Sorry E-Male didn't read the thread till now. But for anyone else who needs the dll you can grab it here:

Is this still the only way to encode DTS to AAC???

No: you can also use DTSdec (http://www.rarewares.org/others.html) to decode a DTS audio file in a Wave-PCM one.
In this way all channels (not only front ones) are downmixed to stereo.

(Italian's thread (http://forum.doom9.it/viewtopic.php?t=8677))

I think the point of DTS to AAC is to keep the 5.1 channels. If you downmix everything to stero then it's probably even easier to convert the AC3 source to 5.1 AAC. Since most DVDs comes with DTS and AC3 sources.

Yeap, I'm trying to get a DTS 5.1 to AAC 5.1. I notice a big difference listen to the two audio types and would soon use the DTS.

Thank you, jk888. I've encoded many AC3s to HE-ACC but this was this first time I did DTS and your guide helped a lot.

I have a couple notes though that might be useful to others though:

As far as I can tell WinDVD 4.5 Platinum is needed. 5.3 and 6.0 produced odd results and I have a feeling azidts was made intending to use 4.5

If you're using Nero for HE-AAC it automatically downsamples to 44100 Hz so no command is needed

"If you want to manually set IVIAudio.ax's Dialog's Properties, Use '-manualch'.
To force six channels output, Use '-auto6ch'. for two channels, Use '-auto2ch'.
(-auto2ch assumed if not specified).

e.g.: azidts -auto6ch -core( -input RHCP.dts -output RHCP.ac3 ) -ac3enc( -b 384 )"
I can't confirm that -auto6ch is needed for encoding to 6ch but I used it and I think it's a good idea to.

You touch on besweet b25+ non-dll version being needed, I'm not sure what for.

Yes you're correct, I tried WinDVD 6.0 once and it had the wrong channel ordering, so the only version that works is WinDVD 4.5. This is sad because it's an obsolete version now and newbies who don't have a copy of it are out of luck, there's no place to download it. I can't serve of copy of it either because of piracy concerns on this forum.

I disagree with this, the only reason why bsn.dll v0.22 was made is because v0.2 did not automatically downsample to 44100. So using the method I described above you will need to force downsample using the command: -ssrc( --rate 44100 )

No I meant that any version of BeSweet after b25 will not work. To transcode DTS to AAC you can only use b25, or b23 dll version + azidts.

I really hope someone will make transcoding DTS to AAC easier, because it will only get harder and harder as new versions of WinDVD or Nero come out, each new version has the potential to break this method.

I downloaded version 4.5 from: http://www.winfuture.de/news,7127.html
As you said the trial version works fine.

You're correct, I had not used a version before v0.22 before so I didn't realize.

Yes, that would be nice, however once you have all the proper software and know what you're doing it isn't very hard. This serves as a decent guide but it would be nice if someone could make it a formal doom9 guide with pictures. I'd be willing to do it if asked by doom9 staff.

This link doesn't work anymore. Any ideas how can I get this dll?
I'm trying to convert DTS to Ac3 and BeSweet with Azidts gives me an error about failure in CreateFilter (DTSSource?).
