conversion question

i hope i am posting in the right area, if not my apologize.

i have a avi video that i am trying to convert to mpeg, every converter i tried says they are having trouble with the video part,
i have nearly every converter there is tmpg2.5, tmpg-xpress,
avi2mpeg, etc.....plays fine in divx player, but not in windows media player. any ideas ppl.....thanks

hi,

first welcome on this forum :)
does mediaplayer display u an error msg ?
i suggest u to open the .avi file in virtualdubmod (it will detect any corruption of the file and try to repair it) and after made a save of the repaired file using the "stream copy" mode.
watch the repaired file generaly the dmaged frames are removed and the final file is shorter.
and after u can try to made a conversion on the fixed .avi file.

used virtualdubmod and this is what i got:

''Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'MP43' (Microsoft High-Speed MPEG-4 V3). VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable. Only 'Direct stream copy' is available for this video. ''

tried looking on the net but could not find, maybe with a different player???? i use windows media player which also auto upgraded to windows media player 9 two days ago. any more suggestions. i feel i am getting close to getting this problem solved.
