View Full Version : HD-DVD to XviD
I have one question here. It's possible to convert HD-DVD (WM9) to XviD with full resolution? I try a few methods and search in forums, but nothing found and anyway my results are horrible...
I hate m$ media containers!
:thanks:

the stuff m$ promotes as hd-dvd is NOT hd-dvd and never will be! the hd-dvd specs have not been finalized at all and will surely not use wma9 nor the .wmv container
therefore no hd-dvds exist atm!
to reencode hd wmv content you have to do the same as with normal wmv content: create a avisynth script by using directshowsource()

but using avisynth will screw up the video if it has vfr no?
@ JnZ,
use DVD2AVIT3 to convert to .avi
use VirtualDubMod to mux resulted files, remember to set direct copy video
Are you sure that your machine is able to play .avi file with such hudge picture /try to use VLCplayer for it/.

U can use Virtual Dub 1.4c to try to open the wmv file. That version of Virtual Dub can open some Microsoft formats, including asf. U can then rewrite it as a regular avi file.
I haven't had much success with the DirectShowSource() Avisynth method.

I've had some problems with audio, but a 2nd mux usually fixes it.
I use...
directshowsource("file",fps=23.976)
the video comes out fine. resize if you'd like.
works for me. nothing fancy with the audio, with vdubmod, demux to pcm, besweet to convert to wav, maybe u can just full process the audio.

I've had very pleasing HD results at 2.5 mbits and above. My preferred method for conversion depends on the source.
If it's a .ts file, I go the DVD2AVIT3 route (now DGIndex, part of the dgmpgdec package): create a .d2v file and decode with something like Mpeg2Dec3 (now DGDecode).
If it's a WMV file, I use graphedit to first render the file, then I tweak the filter chain to make sure there are no weird things in it. I save it as a .grf file and load it in avisynth using DirectShowSource().
I then use VirtualDubMod to encode it to XviD (MSP6, VHQ4, Qpel, 2.5-3 mbits) and save it as a Matroska file.
:thanks: everyone! DirectShowSource works fine. But I have another problem. I'm unable to extract 5.1 channel audio stream from hi-def wma files. Media Player tells: 384kbps 5.1 channels 24bit. When I try it extract i got only stereo channels.
I try extract raw audio stream from WMV, and it seems to be 5.1 channel (it has about 5,7Mb and Stereo AC3 192kbps that I make from this has only 2,2Mb). In graphedit (after audio decoder) I've got only stereo. Any ideas for this problem? Thx a lot.

thats because on all windows systems, being not winxp (or win2000 i think) the multichannel track gets downmixed to 2 channels automatically!

thank you micro$oft for this! you are really the best and nicest company exisiting! its so nice that you are not only not supporting other systems, but not even your own (older) ones! you are not trying every dirty trick to force users to buy your new products! and yes, i will buy immediately winxp to be able to enjoy your f***ing wma9 multichannel audio streams!
i really dont understand why the european commision described your behaviour as "an example of a more general business model"??? what should this mean? i mean m$ is SOOO friendly and in no way misusing their monopolypower... hopefully you dont have to pay the 500 million € fine!
</sarcasm>
hopefully m$ will never reach the monoply situation with their wm9 cr*p they have with windows atm!
use the alternatives!!!

Edit by Nic; No Swearing, even if M$ inspired.

Thx a lot Foobar developers!
