Copyright - how?

Hi,

I have a friend who lives in Denmark. She is a music writer as well as a performer.She recently asked me if I knew how to copyright songs. I don't! Does anyone here have a fair idea of the process involved or know where she can start looking? She has no idea who to ask. Any info would be much appreciated :)

If you want the know the actual law, visit the site of your government.. they usually have laws online for download. However, there's no need to register your copyright. If you create anything that falls under copyright protection it's automatically protected and you don't have to register it.

as doom9 already said normally by law there is no need to especially "copyright" something you did (like going to a official and registrating your work/song or so), as you have the copyright automatically

you can also see this that way: if you post sourcecode on the net, without publishing any license, noone is allowed to use it without your permission as you are the only copyright holder

now of course this leads to the question: how can you ensure that noone enfringes your copyright

In Germany, the musician only has to join the GEMA (http://www.gema.de/engl/aboutus/) (and of course pay fees, I don't know how much) and all their work is automatically protected.
Everything a GEMA-musician composes will cost GEMA-fees on commercial usage - and the musician is getting this money (also I don't know how much)
now of course this leads to the question: how can you ensure that noone enfringes your copyrightAs a GEMA-musician in Germany you don't have to worry about that - the GEMA is more than eager to find out who's not paying their fees :)
