I'm no lawyer, nor a programmer. Used to think I was a programmer about 20 years ago, and so I sure know what it takes to write a good program.

And DVD-RB sure is a good program, that does what we all want in the simpler way. And one that keeps correcting errors, adding functions and up-dating.

I guess that most of the interest of it is the loyal user base it is getting. It sure must be keeping JDobbs motivated (I guess more than the donations), and it's allowing him to keep upgrading his software.

And from reading the forums every day, almost hourly (at least when I'm awake), we all can see all the contributions JDobbs is getting from all of us.

And I'm pretty sure DVD-RB is going to be a donate-ware program for good.

And we all can see what is happening to RB-farm, RB-opt, RB Keeper, ECL-tweaker, and all the apps that were created to get more from DVD-RB.

What I'm proposing (to the community, and to JDobbs) is to find more ways to contribute. Mainly with coding. From reading the forums we can see that he is getting help from who ever he wants, even in the alghorithms. I sure understand that JDobbs wants to keep control and "copyright" of his creation (I'm not familiar with this terms and his implications, so maybe the terms aren't that correct). And that he has the right to do what he wants (we just hope that he wants to keep coding). And i DON'T mean to put pressure on him. But, seing the sucess of "open-source" apps, mainly in terms of exchanging ideias and producing some of the best apps at our disposal, do you think that DVD-RB would become more public?

Please don't consider this as pressure or confrontation to JDobbs. If he or someone considers this as such, he can just delete this post, my username, and send me to oblivion. If that is the case, that's what I deserve.

Being a "backuper" of DVDs since the first days of IFOEDIT, and seing it stop updating, I just wouldn't like DVD-RB to "die" before it's the BEST program around to make what we all want: a simple, efficient, pratical, high quality way to backup our DVDs. You know, my Kids just destroy the originals....

So, please take a second or two to think about this ideia. I'm sure lots of us have been asking this some question in private (maybe even on private messages to JDobbs). Maybe we all could find a way to better help JDobbs in his quest for the perfect backup solution (well, at least until I can get a good solution to backup to DVD-DL).

Sincerely

MM
