I don't see 4 passes with CCE

Hi i'm very new with dvd-rb.After the first step is done after 8 minutes i press encode and cce starts.In the setup i put cce 2.66+ with 4 passes.But when the encoding starts i see that 1 or 2 passes are done.
And something else.Dvd-RB takes the vobs of the main movie and splits it into small files?How exactly it works?

If you're using CCE Basic, you're limited to 2 passes.

The 2nd through last passes are all done with one window open. Unless you watch it the only way you tell it is happening is by the total estimated time (except for the .VAF pass).

Actually, I've noticed the very same thing with DVDRB + CCE SP 2.5.

In RB, I set...

Options -->
  CCE Options -->
    Advanced (Expert) Settings -->
      VBR Passes

        ...to 4.

However, when I get to the encoding stage, I count at most 2 passes being done. There is the .vaf creation, and then one pass which creates the .m2v file. I've sat and watched the process -- the progress bar only goes from 0% to 100% one time once it's working on the .M2V. Shouldn't it actually do that whole process a total of 3 times with one .M2V (even if it does it in the same window)?

So far, the quality has been quite impeccable, but I've only worked with mpegs that need very little to no compression compared to their original sizes. I'd like to be able to do a couple more passes for more compressed files.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

I have 2.67, which gives you 2 progress bars at this stage. One shows the progress of the current pass, the other shows the progress of the combined n-1 passes after the sizing pass. I've never used 2.5, so I can't tell you what's different, but if you want to see this happening, why don't you trying upgrading.

Anyone have any idea what's going on? Yes. What you think is the second pass is actually as many passes as you've selected. If you want to reassure yourself, look in the Rebuilder.ecl file and see what the "vbr_pass=" setting says... it should be equal to the value you selected - 1 (in your case, 3).

Any ideas what I can do to get those couple of extra passes? If that is what is in the ECL, then that had to be how it was set. Take a look at the parameter "eclpasses=" in the Rebuilder.ini file. It should match what you've entered each time you change it in the Setup box (to value - 1).

However, vbr_pass=2 keeps showing up in the ecl file. Very frustrating.

It seems you are facing with the limitation
to two passes, which is proper of CCE Basic...

You are mentioning a behaviour causing a wrong
passing of the pass. nr. parameter from ecl
to CCE right ?

Maybe the release of CCE you are using is incorrectly
detected by DVD-RB ?

Strange and frustrating. Under "CCE Options" in DVDRB, CCE SP is definitely selected. From what jdobbs has said, if I am understanding him correctly, that variable from the .ini file should be passed directly to the .ecl, but, after two more attempts, it's definitely not being done.

Here's a thought...

As a workaround, could I use DVDRB to do the "Prepare" step, then go into rebuilder.ecl and edit all occurences of vbr_pass=2 to vbr_pass=3, or whatever, then do the encode step? Would this do the job?

You could do that with a search/replace, or use an addon like Ecl Optimiser or RB-Opt to change the number of passes. Still, it would be interested to get to the bottom of this. Could you paste the contents of your Rebuilder.ini file here?

If you are using CCE 2.50, you should use EclCCE, if you are using another version of CCE, then you have used the wrong settings.
(If it actualy works, I guess that you are sending ecl files meant for CCE 2.50 to another version ?
Looking back at your first post, you use 2.50, but your .ini file points directly to CCE, not to EclCCE, are you able to get this working ? I thought that RB needed EclCCE for 2.50.

I've actually never changed the setting from 4, and I've run the prepare step several times, most recently on "Rounders," which is the data that you see that I quoted above. The setting was at 4 when I ran the prepare step. I guess I'll just edit the ecl manually after I run prepare and before I encode. It's not that much of a hassle -- just curious.
