First of all a big "thank you" to Lenox...I'm not completely newbie but i prefer to use AGK and xvid to encode my dvd, problem free at all!
Now i starting to encode some personal miniDV using Vdubmod and xvid but cannot avoid "packed bitstream" a problem when playing with my player Amstrad 3016 (Mediatek 1389 chip).
So, why in AGK-xvid i don't find "packed bitstream" in encoded files? I've read that is impossible to set the encoder properly...How AGK avoid that?
It's possible to encode .avi files (from dv or other sources) with AGK (via Avisinth maybe...)? You (Lenox...) planning to develope this in a future release?
Thank's again and sorry for my poor english!

Hi Nefy, and welcome to the forum.

AutoGK doesn't used Packed Bitstream, and neither should you, if your standalone has problems with it. You can't figure out how to turn it off? Using XviD 1.0, hit "More" beside the "Profile@Level" settings, and in the lower left, uncheck the "Packed Bitstream" box.

I think you can now encode DV streams using AutoGK, although not .avi captures. Upgrade to ver. 1.35, and if you can capture in .mpg format, then you're OK. But I don't know anything about DV, so maybe len0x will have to help you on that one.

Thank you Manono, i check on the codec...
Dv files are .avi (type 1 or 2); usually i capture and then edit in the same dv format (best for editing without loosing quality) creating an .avi file then i encode in xvid via Virtualdubmod. I think it's not good to encode the final .avi in mpeg2 and then recompress to xvid...it's a three steps compression! Will be fantastic if an allinone like AGK can do the job for me encoding my .avi files at the best possible quality...!

DV is not DVB :) AutoGK supports DVB captures as MPEGs and transport streams, but not DV which are usually lossless AVIs (huffyuv). DV support will come at some point, but not straight away.

properly encoding DV requires a couple steps

1) deinterlacing (probably)
2) lots of filtering, as most DV cameras put an unbelievable ammount of noise into the picture
3) direct encode to XviD using avisynth

Do not bother encoding to MPEG2 first. You will definatley loose quality. Simply load the AVI straight into avisynth. You should use the DirectShowSource(...) function in place of the usual Mpeg2Source(...) and point it at your DV avi file. Add a de-interlacer to your avs script, tweak the levels, and finally add some nice denoisers ( I particularly like peachsmoother and pixiedust).

Anyway - you can do pretty much anything with avisynth :)

Hi Blue,
actually Vdubmod works well for me with divx/xvid (i never deinterlace my dv's cause i watch them on tv with standalone divx player); the problem is the amount of thing to choose to well configure the encoder...My answer is if Avisinth can feed dv streams (avi type1 or type2)to AGK...
AGK do the job very well with dvd's and if it will works with dv streams (that are worldwide standard) million people will be very happy!

I need to learch DShow programming first and then I would be able to feed anything into AutoGK :) (but this will take a bit of time)
