I have a Radeon 9100. when i played the film encoded with rv8, i noticed that the realplayer displayed HWpostfilter=1. but it's 0 when playing rv9 or rv10 films.
So, i want to make sure if i can make it enabled

iirc Karl said that hw postfiletering only works for rv8 (maybe olders too), and don't for rv9. probably it's impossible to do it because rv9 uses in-loop filtering, so hardware would need do whole decoding process

thanx
i have read karl_lillevold's posts. so i was thinking the postfilter is just something like HFE, and maybe it can be done by hardware

slavickas is right. The Radeon 8xxx and 9xxx postfilter was designed for RV8. HFE is so new we have not yet thought about h/w acceleration, but just like the smoothing postfilter for RV8, it is written to postfilter directly to video memory, and is almost free since CPU cycles are spent during the write-to-memory cycles *). This means the overhead is actually very small, and to be honest, the h/w postfilter for RV8 made only a tiny difference.
*) except the sharpening effect which is more CPU intensive. HFE2 by itself takes almost no extra CPU time.
