I am having problems with the first 15 min of a video on a VCR tape, It looks perfectly fine when I am recording it either using Virtual Dub or WinDVD Recorder but for some reason when I play back the AVI file or mpeg-2 file there is a white bar in the middle of the picture, like a censor block. It is not there when I am recording it from the VHS tape just when I play back the video from my computer. Normally this White bar appears when you press play and will go away after the play sign is off the TV screen. However, this tape for only the first 15 min the white bar will appear then go away then appear again blocking out the middle of the picture with a white bar.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

That may be the case. You may have to get one of those boxes. I have seen something like this with my broadcast $5,000.00 Pro JVC BR-S611U. It is real picky on sync.

Again a sync box solves the problem.

thanks for the reply.

I also found on other boards that some people have this same white rectangle box problem.
They thought it was a macrovision blocking the video source. Which I know my tape can't have any macrovision blocking since it was a cable Broadcast taping and not a rented or bought movie.

It was mentioned to try 1.08 WDM driver for my video card so I will try that. I will also try to see if I can copy the tape to another VHS tape then see if the new copy gives me the same problem.

Just to update the nvida WDM 1.08 driver fixed the problem with the white bar. Who knows could be because of a macro block. But I can not see this effecting my recording. Anyways it could just come down to nvida driver, looks like they got it right way back when! Sometimes new things do not do everything better.
