i just read the news and didn't really say much about this so i did a search and really didn't come up with a straight forward explaination of this crap. what does this protection mean? does it mean i won't be able to capture from cable tv or satallite tv? no one has explained how it works. i've read that protects digital recordings from distribution. this seems to make no sense at all because man, if i hook up my cable or satallite box to the component input of my video card, my capture card isn't gonna recognize some new copy protection unless it worked like macrovision or something. pretty much i'm just worried that this new protection is going to end the ability to record television and that's just not cool. is that the case or am i wrong?

What I have read is that you will be able with some capture devices, stand alone and PC, to capture HD in full format as long that it isn't copyrighted, but just above VHS quality if its like a movie.

I found this information in "Sound & Vision" May or June 2004 edition
