How does Dvd Shrink work?I use Instantcopy 8.05 and i believe it has the best results.I have made 150, both movies and music dvd's.But Instantcopy does 5 passes (main movie). And i think thats the reason why it gives best results. What about Dvdshrink?

It does 2 passes and has lower quality than IC8, I'd stick with IC8 if quality is your concern, DVDShrink is faster if you need speed over quality.

no you cant do 5 passes with dvdshrink. in fact dvdshrink is done 1 partial pass(the analysis at startup) and 1 full pass.
also do not confuse the 5 "passes" instantcopy(and dvdshrinks passes aswell) does as the same thing as encoders, its not. in fact instantcopy only does 5 partial passes to determine whats the best method of reduction(quality) for the particular film at what percentage to gain target file size. thats both clever and stupid. clever because you get a better picture, stupid because it needs a large sample to get near output size accuracy(notice all the reports of undersize with default settings ?).
dvdshrink hits output size constantly because it adapts hte transcoding as it goes, increasing or lessening, to maintain the target while instantcopy doesnt.

Interesting info. But what i always wanted was the best possible quality. And that's what i get with InstantCopy 8.I cant understand people that want a dvd to be ready in 30 minutes and get lower quality.I leave 5.1 dolby in my dvd's directors commentaries and all extra's and most of the dvd's 95% are perfect.Of course i test the dvd's on my philips 32 inch television , i dont know if i tested it in a higher quality tv's.Anyway DvdShrink is free and quite good so i don't blame anyone.

I tried IC8 on some discs that DVDShrink couldnt manage, and IC8's quality was worse 80% of the time (in the good scenes, where IC8 caused huge block noise in dark areas) and better 20% of the time (in the high motion scenes where shrink caused more blocks). So either way, the hard-to-do ~75% level discs are undoable with either.
I use DVDShrink for anything over 80% and the rest is best done with DVD-Rebuilder, which is the killer app for dvd backup right now, and can go as low as 50% with super quality with CCE.

well you asked how it works so i gave you the EXTREMELY basic version. also "whats best" questions are against the rules. :)

thats lower quality in your opinion. if you read around you will see most people are perfectly happy with dvdshrinks output when compressing to over 80%(of original size). thats viewed on a tv and not on a pc monitor since there are plenty of examples where people see crap on pc but looks fine on tv(so its the mpeg decoder on the pc that is questionable in those cases).
