hi,
im a bit of an amatuer when i comes to backing up my dvd's (i just use dvd shrink and nero). recently i have been experimenting with converting dvd films into divx and vcd formats.

now that i have lots of films in mpg and div formats, does anybody know how i can make a dvd with all of them on? obviously this would be so that they could be played in a standard dvd player.

As stated earlier, im using nero buring rom.-this is version 6.

Any help or links to sites with any information would be much appreciated... cheers guys!

hi and welcome to the forum,
unfortunately the task you want to master is not the easiest one! Anyway, i don't want to scare you away, but just warn you, what is ahead of you!
Generally i would recommend to redo the rips from the original DVDs instead of using already heavily compressed files as vcds or divx avis. A significant quality loss will be inevitable!

What you will have to do (roughly) is:

convert all your assets to mpeg2 using a program like Tmpgenc or CCE
convert the audio of your divx file to a format usable for a DVD. you'll have several choices, but in your case mpa should be the easiest format to convert to! of course you can also encode them to 2.0 ac3s or even PCM audio - if you prefer a lossless conversation!
reauthor your assets in a dvd authoring app like dvdlab, tmpeg dvd author, or for more ambitious (also expensive) projects: maestro or scenarist NT!
afterwards you can burn the resulting files (bunch of ifos, bups and vobs) to DVD

doom9 has got a list of really comprehensive guides that will provide you with a more detailed description of the tasks ahead!

if you have SVCDs to, you can burn those to dvdr without reencoding by following this guide:

Provided they are all the correct format (by this I mean ntsc or pal) you could just load them into TmpgDvdAuthor and author a dvd. The program accepts mpeg1 input and will re-encode the audio on the fly.
