i have only noticed this twice so far, but in the movies miami blues and dirty pretty things doing encodes to single cd's the subtitles are about 35 seconds and 65 seconds behind respectively. this seems to stay constant through the entire movie. just wondering if there is anyway to fix this both with external and burned subs. thanks in advance for any help you guys can give. i did a search but couldn't find anything. if there is already a thread then just point me there
Hi buckonine
If the subtitles are burnt in, there's nothing you can do about it if they are out of sync. For external subs, try VobSub's SubResync (start->programs->Vobsub->SubResync).

Hi-
When you ripped the vobs to your hard drive, did you use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode, as you should?

yes, ripped in ifo mode, only the pgc containing the main movie. if i could synch the external subs with the movie, could i also mux the re-synched substream with the A/V to have synch'd burned in subs? i have been doing 2 encodes of every movie because my i need on movie with burned in subs for my father in his stand alone. if i could mux the external subs that would be a huge time saver

Hi-
No, the .avi format doesn't support muxing of subs, without re-encoding. You'll have to keep doing it the way you have been.
However, maybe you've been running 2 passes twice. You can edit the .avs after completing the first .avi to add the subs by adding the VSFilter and VobSub lines to the .avs, and then just run the 2nd pass again, this time with the burned in subs. Before encoding, open the edited .avs in VDubMod to make sure the subs are there and in synch.
