The NEW DVDReMake (http://www.dimadsoft.com/products.php?rfr=psu) & DVDReMakePRO (http://www.dimadsoft.com/products.php?rfr=psu) have been released... Dimad has out done himself...

If you ever wanted one editor to:
ByPass Unwanted Video...
Replace Cells with blanks or custom cells...
Add Chapters...
Disable & Remove FBI Logos...
Disable & Remove Studio Logos...
Disable & Remove Unwanted Previews...
Disable, Remove, Add or Modify MENU BUTTONS...
View all aspects of the movie while making adjustments...
Correct damaged IFOs...
Combine your own compilations...
Add VTS with the click of a button...
Make changes to IFO commands without having to know HEX...
This one program eliminates the need for Title Blankers, MenuEdit, IfoEdit, Chapter Utilities, Title Editors...

Long after I no longer need compression tools thanks to dual layer DVD-Rs I'll still be using DVDReMakePRO to "make my disk the way I like it".

You have two versions to choose from... DVDReMake 2.0 (http://www.dimadsoft.com/products.php?rfr=psu) and the more powerful DVDReMakePRO 2.0 (http://www.dimadsoft.com/products.php?rfr=psu).

Thanks again Dimad for a killer tool... http://posunplugged.com/images/dvdrm_logo.gif

Great post geffroman;
I couldn't have said it as well.

DvdReMake is easy to use and quite powerful.

This version has an option to quickly export a "mini" test version of your "ReMade" disk for navigation testing in your software player. Typically it will give you 5 seconds of each "chapter" of your video.

The "Pro" version also has the ability to open multiple windows, so you can keep the cell commands of a menu open in one while looking at prospective link/jump location(s) in another.

It well worth the price if you're into doing DVD 9 to 5 heh-heh.....

Check it out.

How do I express my dissatisfaction:

no prices are listed till you log in/create an account (why the obfuscation?)
if you already own 1.X, you only get to see "upgrade" prices (again, why the obfuscation?)
it appears command editing is dropped from 2.0 - wouldn't that actually make 2.0 a downgrade? (for $5!)
it appears you need to "upgrade" to Pro to get/keep command editing
the Pro "upgrade" is $15 - half the cost of 1.X full price (no idea how it relates to 2.0 Pro full price)
it's been less than 3 months since 1.x was released!

I feel pretty sure someone will now explain how the numerous enhancements justify the product split and the "upgrade" prices, but I don't think I'm buying (figuratively or literally). You only get one chance to make a bad impression, and the obfuscation and the upgrade price (considering I bought 1.2 just 2˝ months ago) has left me with a pretty bad impression.

Anyone else out there feel a little outrage at the way this upgrade is being handled?

I hope what I'll put in this answer is not a violation of any of the DOOM9 rules. If so could please moderators let me know about offending things, remove them or remove whole post if found appropriate. Thanks.

This one is easy: been a programmer much more then anything else I find it not practical to have same thing (cost in this particular case) in different places.
I don't like the idea that I can forget to change it on some page. I'm sure this would cause way more confusion and irritation then just seeing the price only on order page.
But life is not a program..., for sure this is not difficult to change. Question is: where else should it be placed?
And please keep in mind that there are also different upgrade options: From MenuEdit (ME) to DRM2, from ME to DRM Pro 2, from DRM 1 to DRM 2, from DRM 2 to DRM Pro 2.
Should this table be placed on many pages? Or should it be on a pop-up window when you access DimadSoft pages? For sure it will look ugly, but at least no one will get an idea of intentional obfuscation.

I thought that showing the price only on the place where action can be performed is a good idea... hmm, may be not.

You are right, commands editing is not available in DvdReMake 2. And I'm not hiding this: that is the first thing you see in the list of changes for the program: http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremake/history.php

That was a hard decision. Really. Problem is, there are people who don't know much about DVD and don't need any "real" editing functionality. And actually there are majority of such people. There are much less people who do want to get into dvd editing.

Does anybody like to pay for features they never use? For sure I do not. That is how program got split.

For new users it is not a problem:

[1] you either need to get into DVD guts (so need DvdReMake Pro) or
[2] you don't know much about DVD and don't want to mess with editing commands, etc. - you get DvdReMake.

If you are existing user and do need to edit DVD, also clear - upgrade to Pro version. And I don't think upgrade cost is unfair - just $5 more then it costs to new users.

Only those users who don't need any editing features of DvdReMake have a "real" reason to get disappointed (at least I would).
Just not that long ago they spend money to get a DvdReMake 1 and now there is a DvdReMake 2, which is even cheaper then DvdReMake 1, yet offers more functionality (I mean functionality most often used by these users).

What can I say? Sorry. I hope you've learned something new about DVD using it. And even though there are more powerful editing program available now, what YOU have is also an editor (until today it was what others were using) and sooner or later you may decide to use it (nobody takes away what you already have).

So it is not that you thrown away your hard earned $ (or whatever you earn), you still have more powerful program then the users of DvdReMake 2.

it's been less than 3 months since 1.x was released!

Don't get this one at all. Are you complaining that there was so much done in ONLY 3 months?

I don’t think this and previous post have much to do with DVD. Absence of flame is what I enjoy at DOOM9 forum, so if someone wants to discuss this further – we can discuss it in PMs, e-mails, or on DvdReMake forum.

Well, it will give you as many seconds as set in "options" dialog ;) The only limitation are interleaved cells - these are exported as they are.

I've just checked the site after hopping to DVDStripper.com to see if the filename buffer and error 6 have been fixed.

The above criticism of the site design is very correct about prices. A simple menu of items and prices should be there. Obfuscation doesn't seem an appropriate description. Obfuscation would be deliberate. Seems to me the site design and basic operation have very little awareness of marketing. Prices should be easy to find and descriptions accurate.

I like your sentiment and agree the program replaces many functions in IFOEdit but it's not yet a complete replacement because, and I hope I'm wrong, I've seen nothing about being able to strip subtitle and audio streams. When DVDReMake can do that, I think it will be the total replacement that you speak of.

Yes, it can't strip streams at the moment, but it will soon.

Don't you forget IfoEdit authoring cababilities? DvdReMake does not offer them yet either.

redfive19

I don't use IFOEdit to author since I've heard it has "issues" with NTSC material. I use DVD-Pro for that.

Dimad, as a registered user of both MenuEdit and DVDReMake, I too was a bit disappointed in the pricing structure. I understand you need to make a living and these apps take a long time to code. It just felt like two months ago when I shelled out money for this, I did not know the upgrade to 2.0 would cost extra (unlike what you might think, I am GLAD you are coming out with a new version so fast). For instance, I paid $24 for Tag&Rename and have gotten every new version since the 2 iterations ago when I bought it. Just my 2 cents. I love your apps and basically could not live without them which is why it makes it so hard to not go ahead and throw down the upgrade price.

As far as the stripping of audio, is the version that does that going to cost another "upgrade" price? If so, I'll wait till then to purchase the new DVDReMake.

Regards,

redfive

-redfive This has not been a concern for me as DVD-RM allows me to get ride of the language buttons for languages that will be removed by my compression program later. All my finished compilations get run through DVD-Rebuilder or DVD Shrink. I have yet to find a single DVD that would have been able to fit on a single DVD-R had the audio been stripped by DVD-ReMake... and when dual layer discs are out stripping streams becomes even less important to me...

Since I am always in need of a compression program I am not sure why I would use DVD-ReMake to strip streams... IfoEdit screws up the process anyway (forcing me to go straighten out the IFO files after each strip) so I never used it to do streams either...

It all depends on your work flow :D

That is not correct, IfoEdit does not screw up the process. Like you said, some DVDs require you to make a few manual adjustments. But in no way is it screwed up, it just requires a little manual effort. Screwed up implies that IFOEdit breaks it, which is not true. Once you change the values manually it works perfectly. 2Cool's guides explain the entire process if you can't figure it out.

I would rephrase your statement to: "IfoEdit does not make adjustments automatically for certain stream and language stripping configurations, forcing me to adjust them manually which requires time, effort, and knowledge of the DVD structure".

I can understand the viewpoint that a user would like a program to do everything automatically. I can also understand the viewpoint that users like the fact that they have full manual control.

Neither method can be considered better than the other, because it all comes down to user preference.

There are no problems with NTSC regarding stripping, creating new ifos, or editing ifos. Is that what you mean by authoring? Authoring means inputting a m2v and audio into IfoEdit and having it create the DVD structure.

DvdReMake does not let user work with streams. It will take some time and efforts to implement this, and let users work with streams as easily as with everything else.

As to costs and upgrades, take a look at this: ops, I'll put a link bit later, looks like cdr-zone is down.

@Dimad.. as a registered user of Remake, Id like to say that your pricing structure sucks. I just bought this software less than 2 months ago and now I have to shell out even more money for upgrades. Bad business and surely doesnt make me want to support you. As easy as it is to acquire programs in nonfavorable ways, you would think you would want people to actually support you but with customer service like this, what's the point? At the rate you're going, 3.0 will be out next month and you'll be standing there with your hand out again. I'll pass for now.

If thats how you justify it, that's fine. However, this is the first piece of software I have EVER bought that in 2 months time I was expected to basically fork out half the purchase price again to keep existing features. You didnt even offer existing users any sort of discount for an upgrade to Pro. I paid $29.95 for Remake less than 2 months ago and you're offering an "upgrade" for $14.95 so I'm paying $44.90 for a program a new customer can buy for $39.95. That's taking care of your customers, Dimad!

If you are existing user and do need to edit DVD, also clear - upgrade to Pro version. And I don't think upgrade cost is unfair - just $5 more then it costs to new users.

Huh? Existing users, users who supported YOU have to pay more than new users? I just dont see how you can even type that with a straight face. So we have to pay MORE because we bought the software to begin with? WTF

If you currently own DVDReMake 1.x you have more features than is available in the new version 2.0... you should be happy...

Version 2 just creates two products for the amatuer and the advanced user... This way NEWBIES don't have to pay for advanced features they don't understand or use...

If you wanna upgrade to the PRO version it will cost a few bucks... But you are paying for things never offered before... you are NOT paying for a bug fix... I am not sure what the flack is all about...

But it does show that the I want it for FREE crowd has spoken... and I can guess that for all the work Dimad put into the new product he wouldn't have gotten a cent in donations from the people complaining... He could have sat on his ass for a year and released the new product later so that those they bought Version 1.0 felt OK about new product...

Sounds silly to me that you guys are slamming him for building an entirely new product so quickly...

I think the solution is simple... Give all the existing 1.x users a FREE copy of DVDReMake 2.0...

Then charge an UPGRADE FEE for existing users that upgrade from DVD-RM 1.x or DVD-RM 2.0 to the PRO version...

geffroman

@ KungFuPow

It doesn't sound like you have ever paid for a piece of software before... So are you suggesting I should be able to get Windows XP for the same price as a new user just because I owned Windows 98. And I should be able deduct the cost of all previous versions of Windows I have owned from the price of my new copy of WinXP?

Your logic is seriously flawed... Dimad has followed clearly established software pricing procedures of any software company...

If you paid $5 more for a copy of Version DVD-Remake PRO 2.0 than a brand new user that means you got to use DVD-RM 1.x for 2 months for $5... That means when you UPGRADE you got 2/3 of your previous investment back when you upgraded to PRO...

My god how much cheaper did you want it...?

@Jethroman - I bought Remake at full price. I buy all of the software I used. I've also donated to many software projects here on Doom9 so dont try to make it out like Im some cheap SOB because thats not the case. I've dontated to DVD Rebuilder twice, DVD2SVCD, DVD Stripper and many others. My point is that I just bought this software less than 2 months ago and I don't feel that the upgrade price fairly reflects that. Almost any other company would take care of their customers but I suppose since this is nicheware, the money grab has to come from somewhere.

@FredThompson - I think its great you bring up "the number of source discs processed by DVD Remake in 2 months." Here's why. I've used Remake exactly one time. Because Remake is crippleware, I was forced to buy it to process a disc I was working with. The disc worked fine with a software player but after burning it, it did not work in my standalone. Perhaps I did something wrong, perhaps there was a problem with the software or perhaps the stars weren't aligned right. I don't know. I just wrote it off and figured I'd come back to it later. So, $29.95 for 1 use. Yea, that's a bargain.

Unfortunately it seems with nicheware (Palm OS stuff seems to be the same way) that developers have no sense of customer service. To each his own I guess. Obviously nothing Im saying here makes any difference and it's quite obvious where Dimad's interest lies anyway, with the money.

FredThompson
10th June 2004, 03:14
You used it once, the disc wouldn't work in your standalone player and you didn't do anything to track down the reason? Brilliant.

With all products there is a point of introduction. Everything works that way. If you buy a car, camcorder, boat, anything and a new model comes out 2 months later, you don't the opportunity to upgrade at all unless you pay the full purchase price.

You're outburst is very immature.

Well, I can agree with that. I also have no problem paying an upgrade fee for Pro however I think the asking price is a little steep considering the length of time the software has been out and that there should be some sort of consideration for customer loyalty but again, that's just my opinion.

But let me add that version 2 seems to be a valuable tool for either user set. I've seen the full version of 1 in action and the user was quite happy with it.

Hello all!

I used MenuEdit before and since it can't remove warning screens or even replace them correctly (tried several DVDs) I tried DVDRemake yesterday. Result is the same.

To list the procedure in short (even if you know it for sure):
- FBI warning screen in VTS_01_1 together with nasty trailer stuff
- one cell id in that VOB -> I chose 'delete'
- the VOB was set to 0 byte length
- result: Nero Burning ROM didn't accept the DVD anymore, Instantcopy exits with error
- when I use DVDRemake to do the same thing, it changes something and copies the whole DVD (huh? why?), but the DVD isn't accepted like before by Instantcopy and Nero Recode.
- if I apply these changes after Nero or Instantcopy have transcoded the DVD, the DVD does not work in the DVD player

To NeroRecode: using an unmodified DVD I can block parts of the menu structure and such warning screens, but Recode asks to replace them with color/image/other part of VOB. Well, I assume that's what DVDRemake also does, but with the difference that Recode works.
Well, not really. It changes and replaces, but what's the sense of it when I replace a warning screen of about 1 minute running time with black color and still runs 1 minute (in black)????

This is the point!! The IFOs gotta be changed, but both programs don't do this. Even if I use IfoEdit to correct the VTS sectors and skip menu entries, strip VOB IDs and everything - it simply doesn't work. PowerDVD accepts from time to time, but my both DVD players don't.

Is there a tool somewhere which is TRUELY able to modify a IFO/VOB structure to remove the warning screen both from the VOB and from the timeline????

TIA!!!

Dimad

It is hard to figure out what part of your post regards processing with MenuEdit and what you do with DvdReMake.

It looks like this one is about MenuEdit. Of course it will not be accepted by other programs since you need to do futher processing to fix ifos: http://menuedit.dimad.net/ht_me_delete_vc.html

That's quite what I did. I got a VTS_03_1.VOB with 2 cell ids in which contains a warning/nag screen and two movie trailers. So I choose delete in MenuEdit to remove them. After this the list windows gets blank and the VOB is set to 0 byte length. Now I open the VTS_03_0.IFO in IfoEdit, choose VOB extras, leave the VOB ID unchecked because I want to remove it and IfoEdit tells me "no navigation pack found in VOB.." and does nothing. Anyway, I save the IFO and process all other IFOs like told in the guide. After this I start PowerDVD which freezes instantly. Guess, the DVD player will do the same...
With DVDRemake the result is nearly the same. It Works and copies the whole DVD to another folder, but trying to open it into PowerDVD or Recode or InstantCopy crashes those programs...

Maybe you should post your question in a thread about MenuEdit...

As to DVDReMake... Your description of the process sure makes it sound like you have never run the program...

It is simple... you HIDE the Blocks/Cells you want to get rid of... Since this a thread about ReMakePRO 2.0 I am going to respond based on that version... After you hide the BLOCKS they are replaced by 0.5 second black clips... Upon EXPORTING the finished DVD those clips are reduced in play time even further as ReMakePro corrects the IFO files to actually BYPASS the Blocks entirely... The DVD Structure is maintained and the Hidden items no longer played...

You can even use ReMake to Hide any portion of any Cell at the beginning or ending of a movie... Perfect for getting rid of Studio logos that are combined with the first chapter of a movie... or removing end credits that are part of the last chapter of a movie... You can cut the movie in half anywhere you want for a split disc... Perfect for episodal DVDs too...

wow, I missed all the fun :)

I also dont think the upgrade policy from 1 to 2 was such a good one. I didn't buy 1 but if I had I would have preferred some sort of loyalty bonus as without the first version's customers, version 2 may not have even evolved as fast or as good. This is of course my own point of view (which I am free to express aren't I?) and Dimad will have his reasons why he chose whatever he did

DVDReMake aint perfect and in some areas it sucks but in others it's in a class of it's own. In the end it's all down to users needs I suppose (as usual), as it is with most software ;)

Ifoedit is not as perfect as it seems and its a shame Derrow isn't around to fix a few of the bugs I found when I tested it to the max :(. One bug being that it strips audio/subs when it shouldn't and the other was the messing up of the titles :(

if anyone is concerned about audio/subs stripping being missing in DRM, try using DVDShrink with no compression and remove the audio/subs when you rip (do not use logical remapping). This will save time when using DRM as it will have to process even less data and so will any shrinking tool afterwards ;)

@pyschotourist, those were the days and you have to look back and laugh :D. I still have of copy of those threads and they do make interesting reading :)

@infiniter, just in case you are still around using Menuedit. If you blank a cell with Menuedit you do not strip the VOB ID's with Ifoedit afterwards. You must keep all the VOB ID's. The error you received was due to the fact you tried to strip all ID's which you cannot do in Ifoedit as it gives you the 'no navigation pack found in VOB' error. Try not to use PowerDVD as your test player as it plays non-compliant DVD's. Try something like Mark's Tray DVD player as this is a lot fussier :)

I was just catching up on my MASH collection. One of the things DVDReMake PRO does so well is the SUBSTITUTE feature. MASH has 8 episodes and is hard to get small enough for a single clean DVD-5. But all eight episodes use exactly the same intro cell for the opening credits.

DVDReMake Pro let's me substitute episode 2-8 intro cells for episode 1s intro thereby eliminating 7 duplicate chunks of data.

Many other episodic DVDs work this way as well. Sometimes the end credits can be handled in the same way.

Starting with 2.5.1 DvdReMake Pro can insert chapters into DVD movie at user selected points keeping navigation of the disk correct, i.e. chapter selection menu will still select right chapters. One can go to new chapters either by chapter # or using prev/next on the remote. Of course it is possible to create a new chapter selection menu and replace old one - but it is probably too much effort.

Here is the guide on how to do it: http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro/ht_insert_chapter.php

Hope some people will find it usefull. :)

I was looking around the forum but could not find a place to post this. Hope that posting it in DvdReMake thread would be appropriate. ;)

Is there anyone speaking German around who would like to help with translation of DRM guides and other pages on DimadSoft to german in exchange for DRM Pro license?

I don't think it fixes the playback time as it still has issues :(

Ok, lets say: one of the aspects of computing playback time has been fixed ;)

It does seem like some fanboy wars are in effect.

I personally dislike payware projects in unofficial "scenes," such as emulation or the DVD ripping/burning community, but at least the guy is providing MenuEdit for free. My prediction is that the freeware programs will continue to strengthen in quality and features (VobBlanker and PgcEdit, anyone?), so milk your pricing scheme while you can!

lol, I will be cool about this as it's more a personal feeling than a direct post at someone :). This 'freeware' is what everything should be malarky is just not 'real' and people should accept this

if that's the case why just keep it in programming? What's different about being a computer programmer spending 8 hours a day a PC than someone else working an 8 hour shift? Let's all just work for free shall we and just abolish wages and all bills :D

yeah, freeware programs are great but you cannot say that people should 'milk' something just because they charge something instead of doing it for the 'feel good factor'

it must be nice to have endless hours to put into programming for 'free' but in reality most people cannot 'afford' to do such things. Is it such a big crime that some programmers ask for a return for their efforts as long as their customers are happy?

look at Ifoedit, the greatest one of them all and how Derrow went to 321 or when DVDShrink worked with Nero? If the money was right could any freeware programmer here honestly say they wouldn't sell out? Is anyone bothered if they do anyway as I'm certainly not and good on them I say ;)

if a payware is a scam or a ripoff then the great thing about these forums is that it will soon be known ;)

personally I do think Dimad charges too much (not for what you get but for what most people would rather pay) but that's my opinion as I'm all for cheapware :p

:rant off: and apologies to anyone who is bothered but I just had a crap day at work and there is no way in hell I would do that work for 'free'

I'm from a corner of this world where people work for much less money than in the US for example, and often they just can't afford buying any software. An average guy is happy if somehow can manage to get a computer...
They steal software or use freeware and I can tell you they're not really happy about that.
Even with this background I think that your expectations are economically unreal. Just imagine that you do some useful at work and get no salary. You shold chew the words "worth" and "value" a bit more I guess...

I host the VOBBLANKER website for FREE... Every download of jsotos tools come from MY SERVERS... So before you blame me and others for picking sides as a fan of one product or another take a better look...

Bottomline: Bitching about "pay for" products here is just RUDE... If you go to the store and don't like the price of a pair of shoes, you leave and DON'T buy them... You don't go up to the cashier and bitch her out... or rally the customers to leave with you... or go pickit the store... That would make you a fanatic... You just take YOUR business elsewhere...

DVDReMake is not a monopoly... You can do all the same things with FREEWARE... DVDReMake does in one very cool interface what it would take 3 to 6 pieces of freeware to do... and it does it all at once in a single processing time of a few minutes...

If you wanna save money look at my site or MackemXs guides... Us so called fans have done what WE CAN to help with pricing...

If you like it BUY it... if you don't like it DON'T... but don't derail this thread with your attempts at sabatoge... Keep it ON TOPIC!

Guys, here are many people that are modest to say they've had free programs. I am still using DVDStripper (read Mackem & Co) and like every bit of it (even logo). Roiz is giving us great tools as well. And Jdobbs too! So, MPucoder, DVDShrink, DVDDecripter, sorry if I missed many. So, they decided to go freeware and donationsware. Fine. Some other decided to go payware, fine again. I am working with RF hardware and won't give my stuff for free. So why would they? If you like the program, pay for it, if it is free donate as you can, or help in any other way. I am not programmer, but try to help. I did some translaton for Dimad and he offered free licence - fair enough. But I did translation for DVD-RB Guide on http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/ for free, because it is free software (and I still donated it before). So what, do what you can. And if you don't like some pricing or features, many others out there - some of them $5000 and some free. It is your choice to buy Premiere or Sonic or DVD-RB and Ifoedit.
