OK I'm on the hunt.. and I'm hoping some of you guys might be able to help me out.

I'm after a graphics card with DVI output and an onboard PDI/VIP connector. Like this: -

Or like this one: -

So if you've currently got one of these cards in a drawer and/or are linking of upgrading in the near future. Please remember me.

Anywhere in the world, I don't mind!

Many thanks

PDI/VIP connectorWhat's that? The screenshot shows a card with one DVI (-D or -I I can't tell), one regular VGA and what looks like an SVHS output (though I could be mistaken since I don't really see the connector).

(I think the VIP connector refers to the two small row of pins (that would accept a ribbon cable) actually on the card's PCB itself rather than the external connectors of the card)

Yes, Nic is correct. It is indeed that nice row if pins on the card!

Apparently there are two variety's: -

VIP 26pin header

ATI VIP with AMC 26/40pin header (dual mode).

The 26pin header being the most common.

It is... my Sigma Xcard - I can hear Doom9 shouting at his monitor again :D

Now please don't loose interest everybody but it's the only sure fire way I can get a pure digital stream from off my Xcard and to my HD plasma screen. As I don't really want to use a Dscaler.

I can hear Doom9 shouting at his monitor again eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek

What's wrong with software decoding? And good plasma screens have DVI inputs.

You know, when you put it like that, there's nothing wrong with 'software' decoding via DVI when fed to a large screen.

A few years ago 'hardware' decoding yielded much better results when connected to big screens via component video. That was certainly true of my Xcard and still is to a point but yes you're right, a speedy PC with a good video card and DVI output, connected to a large monitor via DVI is a different story altogether...

I guess the only real advantage of obtaining a video card with a PDI/VIP connector is that it maximises my options.

At the end of the day, I count myself lucky that I'm able to afford such a nice large HiDef screen with plenty of connectivity options... it's a shame you're not all sitting next to me to enjoy it too!
