copying a copied DVD

hey folks,

I have backed up an original dvd movie onto dvd-r using dvd decrypter and dvd shrink. I lost the original movie. I want to back up the backed-up copy. Do I have to decrypt the back up copy again in order to copy it ? Can I just copy the movie files to hard disk and burn them in DVD mode in Nero (or disk copy in Nero) ?
I have tried to copy the backed-up movie with the DVD disk copy function in Nero but it did not work... I think decrypting the back up again would lessen the quality of the movie (making it second generation quality..uhhhhhh).

Any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated for this newbie,

Your backup has no encryption, so there is no need to decrypt it. Regardless, decrypting would have no affect on quality - you could encrypt and decrypt it a million times and there would be no loss in quality.

You should be able to copy the files to your hard drive and burn them again with Nero. I don't know why Nero refused to copy it, but frankly I'm not much of a Nero fan.

That said, even though your copy has no encryption, you can still use DVDDecrypter to grab the files off the DVDR. When there is no encryption, DVDDecrypter does an excellent job of copying the files. I even recommend ripping the backup to an ISO file, then using DVDDecrypter to burn the ISO - it doesn't get much easier than that.

I understand now that there is no loss in quality when successively copying a movie which has been backed up on a dvd-r, regardless of copy method.
