first off, i'm new. We all have to start somewhere though, usually at the bottom, so here i am with my first newbie post.

I'm creating an avi file, and i wanted to add multiple audio streams. Seems like a pretty simple thing to do... or so i thought.

I have downloaded virtual dub mod 1.5.10.1, and have imported my already compressed avi (it's xvid 1.0). I then imported my two previously compressed mp3 files. then i go to file, save as, save as another .avi, using direct stream copy. The resulting file plays fine in media player classic, great!

however,
- it causes windows media player (9.00.00.3133) to crash
- it causes winamp to play the movie, but playing both audio streams at once.

i've previously installed gordian knot codec pack, and recently installed k-lite basic pack. Is there something i'm missing? or am i just being stupid (most likely)? I did a search on the forums for multiple stream crashes.. but couldn't find anything. :-/

any help on this would be appreciated.

thanks,

Hello, and welcome to the forum!

As you have discovered, there are avi players that do not support multiple audio tracks. You may want to install the Morgan Stream Switcher (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Audio/mmswitch.exe). It will allow you to switch audio tracks properly when using those players.

thanks for that, i descovered it, typically, a few mins after posting. Cleverly though, i managed to break my soundcard drivers at the same time, so was hard to test it was stream switching properly.

:)

thanks for taking time to reply all the same
