easy encoding????????????

i've always wonderd why should we - as described in many guides- rip the vob files from the dvd to the hard dsk b4 encoding .... can't i simply start to encod directly from the dvd using Flax or dvd2 avi or what ever????

Yes...in theory...

however leaving you DVD drive constantly reading the disc for many hours could quite concievably to horrible things to both the disc and drive.

Hell, have you felt how hot a disc can get after just being ripped? (takes about 15 mins here)

These things said though, i'm sure i've seen a tool on the 'net somewhere that does exactly what you describe.
