Hi, PROs.

In the hidden options of AGK, there's the method for encoding end-credits separately at a different bitrate than the body of the movie. It says:

************
To Encode Credits with different settings, create a file with this extension in your source RippedVOB-directory:

.credits

inside this .credits file write starting frame, quality percentage (20-100), greyscale (TRUE,FALSE - in capital letters) in this manner:

12304
20
FALSE
*************

Please, I'd like to know more about this greyscale in connexion with this issue, and why and when it ought to be FALSE rather than TRUE. Simultaneously, as I post, I am searching for info, too.

Regards.

Hi-

If the end credits are not white on black, then you leave it at false. There are plenty of occasions where pictures or video will accompany the end credits, or the end credits themselves are in a different color. I think you want to use true only when they are white on black.

Greyscale removes all color information, and makes them all black, white or grey. Lots of times even the white on black end credits have some color information, rainbows or moire patterns, and that's what greyscale is designed to get rid of.

Did that answer the question, or were you looking for something else?

Yes, indeed, it does answer my question.

I've got two more questions for you, if you don't mind too much:

1. Is there any way I can change the Aspect Ratio of my sourceVOB in AGK if there is any reason to believe that the AR info that DVD2AVI is giving may not reflect the true state of affairs (like in case of erroneous authoring)? I can, of course, do this in GK without any fuss.

2. When are you going to release an updated version of your famous DVD2AVI/Dinterlacing article ?

Regards.

Hi ukb007-

1. None that I know of. The DAR as given by DVD2AVI has been known to be wrong before, but very rarely.
2. In the immortal words of Id Software, "It'll be released when it's ready." Unfortunately, we've lost one of our authors (hakko504) to retirement. But I'm getting pressured from other quarters, so maybe I'll get up off my ass one of these days and do something about it. Unfortunately, the AutoGK guide has just about used up all my guide-writing enthusiasm for now.
