comparing mpeg2 encoders

I have encoded the same source file with both TMPGenc and the codec packaged with Pinnacle Studio V9. I compared the visual quality of both and I can't see any difference!

I understand Pinnacle's codec has not been regarded well by some; and I understand Pinnacle implemented a VBR codec with version 9 ... maybe that has successfully addressed its perceived quality issues?

Is there a piece of test AVI, or something similar, which enables more advanced comparison of the quality of different codecs? Maybe the particular video content I used to compare the two codecs did not allow the difference to be obvious to my old and tired eyes!

Could you take more precisions about your test; that is suppose:

- your tmpeg settings
- your pinnacle v9 settings
- time elapsed, the final height of two encoders.

I think "codec" is the wrong word, it's an "encoder".

And if you use both encoders with let's say 9500 kbit/s the differences won't be as much as if you use only 5000.
