was looking into htpc's and came across this:
http://htpcnews.com/main.php?id=ffdshowdvd_5
there's a big difference. yet when i'm encoding stuff (mostly tv captures), i never get results like that. if anything, the noise reduction i do makes things a little blurry to make the image cleaner. but on that page, things are in more focus.
anyone able to get similar results? what filters/settings do you use?

Thanks for the link, draggoon01! Very interesting, and i always wanted to know how to use ffdshow:P. I used their settings, but had to downscale the chroma and luma sharpening to 1.0, and use some postprocessing because i'm watching xvid encodes and the sharpening made some flaws in the video more apparent. BTW i do mostly encodes on dvd material. Results were good, but not like theirs. Also, is there a way to set up MPC to use the ffdshow filter when playing actual dvds? Or any free player that will?

Thank you for your help, Soulhunter. I tried enabling raw video to "all supported", but MPC doesn't register the ffdshow filter when playing an actual dvd. I say actual dvd because when i play extracted vobs, the ffdshow filter will run along with MPC's mpeg2 decoder the way i want it to with an actual dvd. With an actual dvd, i have tried disabling the mpeg2 decoder in MPC, and that forced my nvdvd decoder to run along with the ffdshow filter, but the video output is all srewy with green lines everywhere. I have the latest MPC and ffdshow installed. Help, please?

Hmm, probably it does not work with MPC's decoder coz its a in-build one... :(
For this green lines, maybe it helps to use a different colorspace ???
Dont know a quick fix, but you could search around for some other "external" MPEG2 decoder !!!
Maybe try this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77142) one... ;)

I searched my computer, and for some reason i actually have a cyberlink powerdvd decoder registered:confused: Anyway, that one is actually working just fine. Thanks for the help.

When using VDub to re-code a video from MJPEG to something else, I occasionally get a green tinted frame.
I have found this is usually caused by trying to access two MJPEG files at the same time in different applications, and from then on it seems to give intermittent performance.
I think the same effect can be introduced by asking it to run real-time when there is not enough CPU power to do so.
Anyway, a "quick" and dirty to fix it (works every time for me) is to shutdown and restart.
Maybe the MPC decoder is screwing up in a similar way?
