Some Advice on Filters

I am real new to the avisynth filter technique and was wondering if someone could guide me in the right direction with a couple recommended filters they use for high motion captures (perferably sports captures).
I have a couple of football games on VHS I like to move to DVD, they are a few yrs old but classics for me. I was wondering what would be the best filters for sport games that have a lot of motion in them.
I did take a snap shot of the VHS game. I purposely got a frame that is not all that good. It seems like some camera angles of sports are not as clear as others.

I did a search here and found this link, it was written a few years ago so I am just checking to see if someone has any other filter they like that could possibly help to improve the quality.

Thanks, that avisynth section is great!
I will go through that avisynth part, that is nice for sure.
I did check out that guide before and use the capture part, but had forgot that it had that nice avisynth section.
