I've just downloaded the above mentioned bit of software. I say 'bit' it's actually quite a chunk, weighing in at around 275MB.

Anyway I just wondered if there was any immediate 'don't-do-it' aspects to take note of?

Cheers

If you hear of anything or install it yourself let us know.

I wouldn't install it on your main OS just yet as they are updating it all the time. It is still beta and by the time the final one is released you will be updating another SP2.

I did however give it a bash on a seperate HHD though. I intergrated it with my original XP install CD and did fresh install I never had any problems in short time I tried it. I tried using Windows Update for first time to download critical updates only and it "only" took 1.5 MB to get it "updated". So that 273 MB obviously did do a bit of work :D

It did update security issues and supposed to install DirectX 9.0c My friends said 9.0c but not mine ?

I have run SP2 RC1 for a couple of weeks without any problems. I meant it was responsible for my Scenarist issues, but that eventually turned out to be false, and even a reinstall wouldn't cure it.

And does WinXP have to have SP1 installed prior to updating to SP2?

Did you try it with XP Home or XP Pro?

Cheers

EDIT: Hi Doom9,

So it sounds like SP2 does not suffer from some those annoying qwerks like SP1 did!

Not difficult at all. I used WinXP Pro, but WinXP Home will work as well. I would use original CD without SP1. I did that and it creates a SP1 and SP2 file on CD which doesn't look right to me. This is a great way to keep your CD's up to date. I do same with Win2000 and SP3 + 4.

Here is a guide. Not the one I usually use, but just substitute SP1a with SP2 and it will work.

Enjoy :D

I just wanted to mention that I installed SP2 RC1 on my DSL router/firewall and was never able to get any of the other computers on my network to access the internet through it (they were/are running SP1 - I did not want to try SP2 RC1 on them).

I may just be dense when it comes to setting up firewalls (and I didn't try as hard as I might have) but when booting linux or SP1 my router works fine.
