Y Cb Cr capture card

I will soon be in the prosess of creating a HTPC. I have numerous PS2 games in Widescreen and most of my current Xbox games are 4:3. I would like to capture the 480i component video (or possibly 480P) and scale it to 1280x720P, with window boxing and deinterlacing. Do you think this card (http://www.pluggedin.tv/sweetspot/features/index.html) is any good for doing this, or is there any other card that can capture Y Cb Cr?

The sweetspot is a strange beast. It features an Phillips SAA7118 chip (which delivers the three ADC's needed to deal with RGB or component video) which passes on the capture in digital format to a BT878. It is the last chip that 'interfaces' with the capture driver. This is why Dscaler works with it.

I have no idea how much improvement you can expect compared to capping S-video with a normal Philips chip. I have no experience with this, but I would think ripping would give you the best quality.

i just don't want to switch between the hdpack and a svideo cord when playing xbox, same thing with the ps2. the reason for scaling to 1280x720 is because I'm going to use a computer monitor and one of those shity diy projector kits

if your goal is to use your pc to clean up and deinterlace the signal and display it on a pc screen, this combo (card + dscaler) should do very well. But it is a expensive card (EUR 300,- ), A simple TV card that only does s-video would be a lot cheaper (EUR 50-60).

The only mode you could use would be 480i.

I have no experience with xboxes and such, but since computermonitors can do progressive at higher resolutions, has no-one ever come up with a converter box that let's you connect a PC monitor directly to an X-box or PS2? This sounds like a very expensive way to get only average quality.

there is a vga box for the xbox, but i also want to convert it to 16x9 frame with possible windowboxing for 4:3 content

ok, would this work?

settings on xbox

TV Type - Widescreen
480i - on
480P - off
720p - on
1080i - on

the 480i will go through component, and get converted to s-video, and captured with a s-video card, 720p and 1080i will go directly to the display.
Will dscaler detect the aspect ratio flags that the xbox outputs
