OT: Pentium Vs. AMD

Which processor is better optimized for DVD-RB/CCE? I am running an Athlon64 and while it may be great for games, I have a sneaky suspicion encoding may not be its forte. Does anyone have any thoughts...most of what I have seen in benchmarks is that the Pentium 4 has a clear advantage if the software is made for it. Is CCE optimized for Pentiums? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...I may need to upgrade(?) my system if that is indeed the case ;)

Just put together a 1Ghz 2nd puter and use RBFarm and you'll beat the crap out of the P4's.

But I think the P4 can clearly outdo the A64 only in HT and SSE2 optimized encoders?

Looking at those media encoding benchmarks (granted this was DivX and not MPEG-2) the Pentiums are faster, but not by a very wide margin. It is most suprising just how ineffecient Pentiums are. My Athlon64 is running at 2.0GHz and the Pentium 4s are running at 3.0GHz+ and are only beating the A64 in media encoding (only by a slight margin to boot). Maybe I should just stick with what I have and not worry about such a minor difference...after all, my A64 does kick a$$ in just about everything else :) I guess the fact that I am playing music in iTunes, encoding in DVD-RB, and surfing the net all at the same time with little hesitation should say something :)

I have a Athtlon XP 2800+, and am very happy with it. Not the fastest but...better only the AMD64 power :devil:
