Hi2All!

Tnx for a great dvd ripping tool. It does it's work well. But there is one nice idea how to improve features list .)

MPEG4 is great to make rips, but some of new codecs are better. I'm talking generally about VP6.2 (http://www.on2.com). I've made about 50 dvdrips with VP6.2. It is quite better then any of mpeg4. And it is much faster then last versions of DivX (3 fps on AthlonXP 3000+ when encoding with DivX is nonsence). VP6 supports two-pass encoding, has DivX-like frontend an can be used with VirtualDub. VP6 streams can be handled by .avi.
VP6.2 is free for personal use, just download it and try.

So, time came to talk about mp3 .) I wanna say just "use ogg vorbis". Lower bitrates, higher quality and so on. Unfortunally, ogg streams cannot be included into avi files, however .ogm or .mkv is sutable for this.

For ripping I use VP6/OGG streams included into OGM file. OGM is supported in VirtualDubMod and can be played with best multimedia players: BSPlayer (experienced bugs with some files) and ZoomPlayer.

VP6 has no avaliable decoder for linux and afaik there is no standalone DVD/DivX players supporting it. VP6 streams require about 1Hz CPU to play smoothly when video is encoded in high resolution. But. It is really good.

PS. Do not say that AutoGK only makes movies that can be played with hardware DivX/XviD players, just add some lines to help file about it or note user with some messagebox() when he attempts to use VP6.
Please do not limit the power of computer video .)

PS. BAD PC games developers first write code for consoles like PS2 and XBox an then they port game to PC platform. So some of new great features like new versions of pixel shaders are being used years later then their hardware support becomes avaliable. Think about VP6.2 as a new version of DirectX with mega-features and look at hardware players as two-year-old game consoles .)

I think DVX has already surported vp6+ogg.
By the way, what's your vp62 encoding setting? It's different from xvid
,i don't know how to get the best quality under certain bitrate like 800 kpbs.

i think lenox already stated it wont include ogm/mkv or other codecs support until standalones will be capable of playing back those formats.
I'd like to have vp6/mkv support in autogk too but i dont think it will be implemented.

Last used settings were

(general)
bitrate = 942
mode = (two pass - first pass / two pass - second pass, best quality)
end usage = VBR
material = progressive (thomsnocomp was used in avisynth)
noise reduction = 0 (msu denoiser was used as external filter for vdub)
sharpness = 5 (do not use higher values with bitrate lower then 1mbps)
auto keyframe = on
max frames between keys = 1000 (higher values cause hanging up the player when seeking over credits)

(advanced)
undershoot = 98 (this for overhead)
adjust quantizer = (min = 4 / max = 40) (see manual for this)
temporal resampling = off ( we dont want to drop frames)
spatial resampling = on, (down = 20%, up = 35) (use this!)
two pass section datarate = (variability = 100 / min section = 50% / max section = 400%)

Vp6 can be included into .avi .) with, for example, mp3.
