Dual layer - Double layer?

What's the difference between dual layer and double layer for DVDs?

DVDs can be single-layered (DVD-5) and Double (Dual)-layered (DVD-9). Both these, on a double-sided DVD will be, respectively, DVD-10 and DVD-18.
