View Full Version : Opening Xvid Avi file in Gordian Knot!

Guys, I am really sorry if this has been talked about before! Done many searches and didn't find anything though!
My problem is that since XviD-1.0-RC1 ,2 and 3 and now the Xvid1 final, I am no longer able to open any Xvid Avi file in Gordian Knot:(
Here is the error I get: "file is not a valid dvd2avi, avi or avs file!"
Now if I use older versions of xvid codec there is no problem!
Actualy what I do is that I capture 768X576 from Digital sat with Xvid codec and then open the avi in GKnot and resize and recompress!
This is no longer possible for me with the new Xvid codecs :(
So please someone help me and tell me what to do!
Thanx in advance.

I tried myself and indeed that didn't work. No idea why though. Do not expect this to be fixed any time soon as I'm not working on GK atm.

Hi-
I'm afraid that for the time being you'll have to open your .avi with an .avs. Name it something like Movie.avs, and inside have this line, or something like it:
AVISource("C:\Path\To\Movie.avi")
Then go ahead and crop, resize, or whatever you used to be able to do before saving and encoding. Then, before doing the encoding, edit the new .avs that GKnot creates from:
# SOURCE
AVISource("C:\Path\To\Movie.avs")
to:
# SOURCE
AVISource("C:\Path\To\Movie.avi")
That should work, I think.

manono,
Thank you so much. With this method I get the chance to use and have the latest Xvid installed.
I hope this will be fixed anyway as this is very recent problem.
If you download the LAST xvid binary JUST BEFORE the RC1 you will see that it works all perfect. So the change is since Rc1,2,3 and 1final came out.
Anyway thanks to both of you for ur reply, At least now I know there is nothing wrong on my side.

I wonder why XviD decoder has issues with avifil32.dll which GK uses for opening AVI files.

Finaly I guess it would not be a bad idea to share the info with Nic and Koepi! Maybe they could also look into the problem!
Meanwhile I am now a happy man as the fourcc workarround is a easy one and works perfect :)

Gordian Knott is not the first program that have problems with Xvid 1.0. It appears bugs in Adobe Premiere and TMPGEnc Xpress 3.0 too. And when you uninstall Xvid codecs, that works perfectly (but you must have another decompressor, like the Divx codecs).

Unsticked as GK 0.35 should not have any problems opening XviD files.
