View Full Version : DVD Decrypter - EAccessViolation message

I've run across one weird problem with 2 fresh DVD releases from Silver Vision UK: Wrestlemania 3 and 4 region 2 PAL. I've never encountered a dvd (and I've seen many of them so far) which wasnt even possible to load into dvddecrypter! When I load it up it gets me following error message which appears at the very last moment when usually I am about to see files contained on dvd:
InterfaceThreadRuntimeException
Message=EAccessViolation
and then program closes when u press OK button.

I was only able to backup only one of those 2 dvds (Wrestlemania 4) with DVDFab. Both of them give me same error message in Decrypter.

With Wrestlemania 3 nothing works, I am only able to make half of overall DVD copied to my harddisk because it doesnt seem to "see" the 2nd part of the dvd (after layer break?).
DVD plays back fine on any of my dvd players (standalone) but when I call up the info about total minutes on dvd/remaining minutes on dvd) it doesnt give me a correct info saying there's only 1 hr and a half or so, when in reality its over 3 hrs long. When u skip forward towards back of that dvd u can get info like current position 3 hrs XX mins YY secs of total 1 hr AA mins BB secs... DVDshrink 3.1 after analyzing the dvd puts all the video into unreferenced material hence I am unable to use that footage in reauthor mode and it seems to me it locks up anyway when reading one of the VOBs if u stay in "shrink" mode. DVD X Copy simply freezes when processing this DVD. SmartRipper says one of the VOBs is locked for Win I/O.

Strange thing... What could that be and if its some kind of new protection (even than that sounds silly)? Any ideas/suggestions how to overcome it would be welcome. Looking forward for any tip from LightningUK.

What does it say in the status bar when you get this access violation message?

'Checking for RCE protection...' ?

No, what does it say in the status bar at the bottom of the main window?

It just says "Checking for RCE protection" before error message appears, then that message remains after I click on OK on the error message box. Nothing else happens though after that.

In the upper part of main window it says "RCE Protection: Unknown" and CSS/CPPM as encryption method or smth like that.

Any hint what all of this is about?

Thanks, that's what I wanted to know.

I suspect a corrupt/invalid ifo file.

IFO and BUP's are not encrypted (I think). If they are, try them one by one, maybe you can figure out which one is bad. If you find one, try it's corresponding BUP, maybe that will work.
Try selecting all VOB's and decrypt them to the hard disk, then copy the IFO and BUP's and open them with IFOEdit (maybe it gives you some clues).

How can I decrypt VOBs to the disk if after that error message I dont even get the files in the file box - its empty. So I cannot even decrypt them to harddisk. same with ifo and bups - I can copy them manually in Windows but I cant do the same for VOBS (some VOBS cannot be copied and its contents are scrambled with CSS anyway if I copy it in Windows).

LightningUK - corrupt/invalid IFO? intentionally corrupt or "bad disk"? I dont think its a problem of "bad disk", since there are 2 of them (separate dvds) and both have same problem. What can I do to workaround this problem anyway if I am unable to get the files off the disc to begin with?

Someone actually sent me a bad ifo file (same problem as you) a while back.

I implemented a fix/workaround for the problem.

So basically, wait and see if the next version works!

Any hints on when the next version of DVDDecrypter will come out?

Also, is there any sense in emailing you ifos from my dvd release, maybe that could point towards a solution?

Yup, mail away!

Copy all the ifo's off in explorer, RAR them up and pop them in an email.

You can get the address from the programs 'About' box.

I dont post it because I try to keep the SPAM levels down ;)

The error is most probably due to the new protection some DVD's show recently, provisionally called "AugsburgerPuppenLock"
