View Full Version : RBLoader v0.2 - Allows Rebuilder to work on Encrypted DVDs
RBLoader v0.2
http://nic.dnsalias.com/RBLoader.zip
From the ReadMe.txt:
This little app, should add the ability for jdobb's DVD Rebuilder to work on encrytpted DVDs. This means you will not need to use DVD Decrypter before running DVD Rebuilder.
Install
-------
Add RBLoader.exe and Hook.dll in the same directory as Rebuilder.exe. Then run RBLoader.exe to load the Rebuilder.
Notes
-----
If using this app to use rebuilder, please report back in the appropriate RBLoader thread. Jdobb's will not be interested in problems when using Rebuilder that may have been caused by RBLoader. If you believe the problem lies in Rebuilder, please use Rebuilder again on the VOBs already unencrypted before bug reporting.
Use DebugView from sysinternals.com to see any debug messages that may be sent while using RBLoader.
This program uses ApiHooks by EliCZ
Also uses libdvdcss, GPL source available on request.

While i suppose this could be useful if you lack harddrive space, in one way its not great. If i was to use this program then my DVD drive would have to be spinning all the time for when i was encoding, which wouldn't be that healthy for it. Also i wouldn't be able to encode across my network, because if i had two or three computers trying to encode from different places in the same DVD it'd go crazy scanning between the different places on the DVD.
It'd be like copying 3 files from a CD/DVD at the same time... very slow.
Very true :) It was just an idea I had that was easy to throw together, and for me decrypting first and then loading up rebuilder is a pain, so I didn't want to go that way. Although there are solutions like dvd43, I thought i'd write this up :)
It only took less than half an hour to write up, and was only going to use it for personal use. But ill keep it updated here, for those that might find it useful.

Well, I have tried the AnyDVD with the rebuilder. It works too, at least for the two titles now. But maybe it would be safe to use this nic application too. Will test it. Thanks Nic!
AnyDVD has had it's bugs, and maybe some titles won't end up successfully with rebuilder. Does someone here got problems with AnyDVD and RB ?
I think they're might be a bug to do with the Menus using my loader, i'll have to test properly (it's due to the fact I don't know how Rebuilder handles menus (don't know if it just does a copyfile or reads and outputs the file).
So any feedback would be appreciated. :)

-Nic It reads and outputs the files (I have an internal copyfile routine) using 2K blocks.
EDIT: Actually... let me go back and check tonight. I may have changed the block size. Do you need it in 2K blocks (I assume so)?
as long as it is a multiple of 2k so 2048, 4096, etc then everything is cool :)

I've had no problems with ANYDVD. It works like a charm, and doesnt hog any resources. Although I dont run it straight into RB from the dvd-drive, I rip them into Alcohol 120% and mount the image that way. Works great, and fast. I dont see why anydvd would have any problems going straight into DVD-RB, but as was mentioned earlier, it isnt logical to stress the drive for that long, and it would be faster from a mounted image I do believe.

I just added this to the add-ons section of the Overview Stickie.
This should be very useful for people using the Rejig options or to test a disc to make sure DVD-RB can handle it (angles, branching). I'll also have to try out AnyDVD to see if it works with DVD ReMake, as that would be an excellent alternative to direct ripping with DVD Decrypter.

RBLoader allows DVD-Rebuilder to work directly from the DVD doing the decryption on the fly.
Changes:
Actually works properly now... ;)
Adds a "New Folder" button to the browse for output directory part of DVD-RB
Works quicker now
Works just as well on unencrypted files as encrypted files.
I'm guessing no one bar me is using this ;) But here's an update. Because DVD-RB demuxes to M2V then does the processing, RBLoader won't cause your DVD Drive to be thrashed particulary, so it's quite safe and quicker and less time consuming than using DVD Decrypter first.
Cheers,
-Nic

actually afaik no demuxing is involved, the d2v's are made off the VOBS and encoding is done straight from them. the only m2v's in the output directory are the final encoded m2v's.
i still think this is a good app and not all of us are blessed with 200 gig hds so it may come in handy for someone.. it makes rb more one click since ripping is a step in the process even though you do it before running rb. this will save you that step.

In rejig mode DVD-RB demuxes the video streams.

I would also point out that the engine of a DVD drive is designed for a lot of usage (reading). When you watch a movie it plays for two hours or more at a whack, and the players are designed to play movies many, many times! Since DVD-RB is reading sequentially from the VOB files as it is encoding, you should see very little thrashing.

Agree, and take my Liteon 163D for instance, I've tested EVERY DVD-R I've burnt since 2002 with it (estimate over 300) using dvdspeed and ripped movies with it also. And it cost me an amazing 60€ back then.
I wouldnt encode off the "expensive" burner, but a dvd-rom like the liteon can take seemingly infinite amounts of abuse.

at least 2 - lol. its hard to find a movie under 2 hours now adays. yeah.. i agree shouldnt be an issue
@Trahald et al:
An interesting point, I assumed it demuxed for all modes, only tried with ReJig. It may well not work with the others (all depends if hook.dll hooks the mpeg2dec-esque.dll or not) ...i'll have to test :) Definitely works with Rejig though...

any further development on this application, Nic? and/or source available?

With the advent of ARCCOS protection since it was written, this util has limited value now unfortunately. It will still work with the majority of titles out there, but, anything from Sony would likely fail.
