A friend of mine just signed up for the forums, so he can't post yet. He had me post a question for him since he really wants to start encoding soon.

Hello
I'm using VirtualDub 1.5.10 trying to encode a file using XviD (latest one)
The Raw According to GSpot is,
DivX 3 Low Motion Encoded at 1635 kb/s
I get this error below
---------------------------
VirtualDub Error
---------------------------
Cannot start video compression:

An unknown error occurred (may be corrupt data).
(error code -100)
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Using DivX 4.12 (i know its old) Using the same raw as above I
get this problem
---------------------------
VirtualDub Error
---------------------------
Cannot start video compression:

The source image format is not acceptable.
(error code -2)
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Using either DivX MPEG 4 Low-Motion or Fast-Motion it does encode
but, about 10 minutes before it done encoding an error is received.
But using XviD with:[L33t-Raws]Tweeny_Witches_05_(640x480_24fps_XviD).[6B5B3FEA]
Does work, and using DivX 4.12 does work with it.
I have not tried to use with with the DivX MPEG 4 one's.

The Help im asking for is, How Can I get rid of these errors so that I can encode with DivX and XviD, no
matter what the raw was encoded with.

check the frame width and height of your file

for DivX they must a multiple of 4 for width and 2 for height, i expect similar restrictions for XviD although they don't show up in the compression window of VDub.

having said that, it is best to keep both width and height multiples of 16
