Hi,

I purchased CCE Basic 2.69 recently and decided to try DVD-RB last night for the first time (0.49).

When I got to the Encode stage, the first avs file completed fine, then CCE popped up an error message ": unknown type". By clicking OK to the error message CCE launched and encoding of the second avs began.

The same error message popped up again before the third avs started. It was late and obvious I couldn't run it unattended so I stopped the encoding stage, so I could take a look at things in the morning.

I discovered that this happened because I opened REBUILDER.ecl in CCE and resaved it before I began the encoding stage, causing CCE to convert all the settings in the ecl file to the new 2.69 format. Well, it is indirectly the reason anyway...

I say indirectly because, looking at the item.ecl file DVD-RB creates in the encoding stage, it looks like this:

; Cinema Craft Encoder Basic -- Encoder Control List

[item]
[item]
title=V01000100002001
aud_out=0
aud_mode=0
vid_file=E:\WORKING 2\D2VAVS\V01000100002001.m2v
vaf_file=E:\WORKING 2\D2VAVS\V01000100002001.vaf
aud_file=E:\WORKING 2\D2VAVS\V01000100002001.mpa

CCE obviously doesn't like having [item] listed twice.

If I don't touch REBUILDER.ecl then encoding works fine and no error messages... which I'm sure all of you using 2.69 know.

I'll restart the process again today when my PC is free and hopefully have my first successful DVD9 > DVD5 conversion soon :)

Regards
Jeff

Encoding went fine now.

Rebuilt the files and all the features of the DVD appear to work as they should. Magic! :D

Has no-one else with CCE Basic 2.69 had the same problem if they edit any settings in the .ecl file, prior to encoding?

Regards
Jeff

I've just tested the current version of RB, almost 12 months on, and the problem still exists.

Perhaps, therefore, the following section in Rebuilder.txt, included in the RB package, should be ammended or removed:

"5. When preparation is complete you can either open the ECL file with CCE
and modify as you see fit, or press the "Encode" button."

I've been use CCE Basic 2.67/2.69/2.70 with DVD-RB (ver .20 ish up)for awhile now and never had to do that. All my encodings have gone fine.

It might help if you post a copy of your rebuilder.ini file and maybe a copy of the rebuilder.ecl file

Edit: I discovered that this happened because I opened REBUILDER.ecl in CCE and resaved it before I began the encoding stage

WHY?? :confused: :scared:

If I don't touch REBUILDER.ecl then encoding works fine and no error messages... which I'm sure all of you using 2.69 know.

You shouldn't have to do that anyway. :confused: Again, Why?

Thanks for taking the time to respond, it's the last thing I expected now.

Yes I agree the settings are fine and shouldn't need to be changed, but that's not the point. The official useage guide states that you can, even encourages it "as you see fit", yet the reality is in doing so it throws RB for a loop, quite literally! Try it...

I simply wanted to point out that contradiction, that's all.

Not that it's relevant, but since you asked, twice... I prefer the Quantization Characteristics set at 16, the default in CCE, but it's not possible to set that value from within RB because of the scaling done, and rounding errors.

Well is certainly need an "addon" like: "Just touch if you really know what you're doing" :D :scared:

Well, you can edit the REBUILDER.ECL file in notepad not CCE Basic and do a edit/replace ... q_char_f=24.96 (or what ever your is)with q_char_f=16...save then run dvd-rb...NO ERRORS ...lol

@Rockas

Why do I need to press a "Start" button to shutdown my computer?

:D To start the shutdown process :D ...joke :D

Yeah, I know... that is of course what I have been doing since I first discovered this bug, and it only takes a few seconds that way.
