View Full Version : What does DVD-RB not work with?

Just wondering what DVD types will break DVD-RB, such as multiangle or seamless branching. Do they all work ok? Also, does it handle discs with multiple episodes on them (such as Friends, which is a TV series and each DVD has about 6 episodes on it).

I've had it work fine with a few episodic discs, but recently ran into some trouble.

I encoded Sopranos 2 seasons, CSI 1 seasons, Alias 2 season that is 22 disks no problem.
only one tiny one menu link didnt point to the correct place but when did play all it worked well.
so 21 out of 22 no problem.

Everything else should be fine. There is still a chance for bugs to be found as it is still in beta.

Ok, thats what i wanted to check. One last thing, how can i recognise seamless branching and multiangle discs easily? So i know not to waste my time and put them through DVD-RB.

Don't worry, Rebuilder will tell you if it can't handle a disc.
However, if you want to check you can look at the PCG tables in IfoEdit. You just look for the mark " (IlVu) ", I'll post a screenshot in a second.

Any way to handle seamless branching movies like Die Hard 1 with RB by using another tool to "fix" it (remove the branching?) before putting it through RB?

Same question here,
1.- Is there any way to pre-process the DVD, in order to eliminate extra angles?
2.- Same question with seamless branching?
Thx in advance.

You can use DVD Decrypter in File Mode and tell it to only keep one angle.
Does DVD-RB handle Closed Captions now?

I haven't even looked at CC or what I need to do to make them work. I made the assuption that it wasn't doable because they are embedded in the video picture and I have to reencode it. But I've been told that other methods use CCE and keep CC... so I need to do some more research.

That works for multi-angle, but what about seamless branching that's not using multiple angles?

I actually tried that tonight, it didn't work for me (more as an FYI, not complaining).
DVDDecrypter V.3.2.1.0, used file mode in settings to retain my preferred angle (in my case angle 1)
DVD-RB V0.51b still rejected it, I tried an IFOEdit method I found in this forum ( http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=74411&postid=478867 ), P3gasus & Joergen's method seemed to work fine, ill post back if I have any testing probs.
Thanks P3gasus & Joergen!

i more than understand that you work on this project on your own time, but you have my vote for adding CC functionality! hopefully it will make it to your to do list soon.
thX for the great app and for the continual improvements since its inception!

I was/still hoping that the ablity to keep CC would make it to version 1.0!
CC are the only think left on my list of must fix :thanks:

i will vote for cc being kept also. keep up the great work with this app
DVD-RB has managed to make DVD-5 --> DVD-9 almost DVDShrink accessible, with Big 3 quality, which is a testament to the author. The only thing that keeps me from wholeheartedly using and recommending it for Region 1 DVD's is the knowledge that the Closed Captions will be lost in the process. For some Region 1 DVD's, Closed Captions are the only "subtitles" available, and it is a shame to lose them.
The Big 3 method definitely does retain CC's.
JDobbs, if you need a sample R1 NTSC DVD to play with, PM me and I'll send you one.
The work-around now is one that most people won't use. I use VobSub to extract the Closed Captions to a *.srt file, then use DVD-Lab to add that back in as a subtitle stream. It is time consuming, and prone to errors and mistakes, so an integrated solution sure would be nice.

Hello,
i know this thread is one year old, but i have the same problems:
i tried to rebuild "die hard" with dvd-rb pro 1.09.3 (should can handle ilvu sections since v1.0?)
the problem is, my mediaplayer cant play five avs-files, all others work fine.
http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/5260/snapshot200606202128022vj.png
ifoedit shows me three ilvu's in PGC_1 and two in PGC_2, i think theese are the five which avisynth cant play.

I did the NTSC version of "Die Hard" with no problem.
You can't play those AVS files because DVD-RB does on-the-fly demuxing of the ILVU areas during encoding. DGDECODE (or any other frame server of which I'm aware) does not work with interleaved video, so it is necessary to demux it as needed. This methodology is necessary to prevent the requirement for huge amounts of disc space in handling ILVU during processing. A heavily ILVU disc might increase the storage requirement by as much as 9GB.
Your media player can't play back because the source video doesn't exist at the time you're attempting to play it.
As for the thread title: I have completed over 950 unique DVD backups... and have yet to have found one that could not be done with DVD-RB.

One more note. If you really don't care about space and you really want to be able to playback the ILVU AVSs for some reason, you can add this line to the "[Options]" area of REBUILDER.INI:
PERSISTENT_ILVU_VOBS=1
I really don't recommend it, though -- for the reasons stated. I only added it for my personal use in debugging.
