Hello folks,

Would anyone be so kind to explain to me what Duplicate VOB-IDs are?

I have a faint idea, but I'm not sure; Is it a sort of copy-protection (so when you author it, it will place the same video-clip twice on the DVD just to waste space (hence lower quality)?

And finally, how does DVD-RB handle such discs?

Thanks for any replys :=)

duplicate vob-id may sound a bit misleading.. it just means 2 or more pgcs use the same vobid in playback.. an example would be out-takes . many dvds allow you to play the outtakes one scene at a time, or play them all at once. the pgc is pretty much a play list. so if there were say 3 out takes..given the below layout, you can play vobid 1 ,2 or 3 separately.. or with pgc-4 you can play vobid's 1 and 2 together

pgc vob-id(s)
1 1
2 2
3 3
4 1 , 2

your vob will look like [VOBID1/VOBID2/VOBID3]

vobids 1 and 2 are considered 'duplicate' pgc 3 is not. but each vobid only is physically on the dvd once

rebuilder processes by cellid (smaller chunks than vobids). it just makes the new vob look like the old one vobid wise and doesnt mess with the pgc(play lists) so it will handle duplicate vob-id fine. most dvds now a days have at least one vts that have double referenced vobid's
