@thing: you probably should define .mpg a bit more closely, but dvd2svcd allows you to make VCDs and SVCDs and those are essentially .mpg files. Okay, they have different names when burned but that's beside the point. Just note that .mpg can be MPEG-1 (often VCD) or MPEG-2 (SVCD, DVD or something non standard).

most definitely yes! :)

DVD2SVCD also has an AVI2SVCD mode in which you can either create mpeg1 or mpeg2 files (SVCD or VCD - both have an *.mpg extension as you know!) with. just check out the guide!

well, my friends i don't have any dvd, or hardware video player... i dont know what svcd or vcd is.

all i know is that i have .mpg .avi files in my computer hehe

just need to know how to convert them, i don't want to "burn" them, only need to view them in the computer.

thanks!

so why don't you leave them as you are! if you only intend to play them on your computer there's absolutely no need to convert from avi to mpg or whatever!

maybe because the .avi files are over one gigabyte?

and i also have problems with .wmv

all i want to is to change them to .mpg

No offense, but converting them to MPG is likely to make them bigger and degrade their quality. I think you'd be best served to leave them as avi/wmv and resolve the wmv problem.

If you're dead set on converting them to MPG, I recommend TMPGEnc. It's inexpensive and is probably the simplest choice for encoding from wmv, though I don't think anyone can promise no problems or strange things. In my opinion, working with wmv is an invitation for strangeness and problems.
