New DVD2AVI menu option?

What's this new option under the Help menu...OpenDVD Plugin?

I can guess what it does. Is this an 'undocumented' feature? It should really be under Options, since it can be configured and isn't just an indicator.

well, there's a plugin called OpenDVD that can be used to read CSS scrambled VOB files directly from a DVD drive. It's available from my site, but frankly, I'd suggest the use of DVD Decrypter over that plugin as imho DVD Decrypter is much more reliable.

Not new; it's there in 1.77.3 from jackei. I saw that but never knew what it was or tested it. I'll remove it as I want to be street legal.

I just double checked and the OpenDVD Plugin option was NOT available before 1.3RC5. I only checked DVD2AVI 1.1.0 RC2, 1.2 RC2 and 1.3RC5.

Anyway removing it is probably best. I seriously doubt if there'd be any legal trouble, the movie industry has lost several DeCSS cases recently. But why take the chance.

From a functionallity point of view, how practical is it to index and encode directly from the DVD? (Not very) It is kinda neat though. Oh well.

Actually, maybe I deleted the code that removes the menu item when the plugin is not detected. Yeah, that's it.

I have a DVD recorder and (obviously) its VOBs are not encrypted. I run directly off the DVD all the time! You just navigate to the VOBs, and Bob's yer uncle. Beats all that capture card business, ya know?

It will be especially nice once DGMPGDec reaches maturity, cause then we can stop fragmenting the FAQ with version specific info.

The esteemed Hakko has moved on, at least for now. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have FAQ updates in mind right now. Of course, if he does, we'll certainly welcome that. Failing that, we need someone. Let's just call you the FAQ co-maintainer for now. Is that OK?

I'll leave it to your judgment if you want to wait for DGMPGDec 1.0.0 to generate an update. But there is some obsolete, misleading stuff there now. We can discuss it in PM.

Yea, bad stuff needs to be fixed. But I want to wait for DGMPGDec to stabilize before a major update.
