View Full Version : AutoGK Xvid video doesn't play on standalone player (matrix prob) [solved+new info!]

Hello,

First of all thanx to all the developers, great tools + codec stuff.

Okay, problem is I wanted to encode some videos with AutoGK(1.2xbeta)+Xvid (DivX didn't get the quality). All went okay, quality was brillant on PC (1/3 DVD size) but they didn't play properly on my standalone Divx/Xvid Player (Tevion 4000, ESS Vibrato II Chip). I got stripes and/or colour smearing (DivX versions played okay).

So I checked all the settings and found the reason for it. AutoGK seems to use a/the(?) custom matrix, and that one does confuse my player. Using the "lastjob.vcf" from the "gk_tmp" directory and just switching to "H.263" or "MPEG" produced playable results.

So, my question is if the use of the custom matrix can be switched off. I realize that it is somehow necessary to produce the best looking quality, but it just isn't compatible with my standalone (maybe some other standalone users can confirm this?).

So a simple switch in the AutoGK gui to use "standard/standalone compatible matrix" would be fine.

Possible?

Thanx in advance, Filbert

Check the "Support for ESS-based standalones" option during install.

Okay, I must have been blind. Just found the part about it in the help file and in the 1.25 installer (after puzzling around with this prob for 1.5 weeks ;-) ).

Sorry and thanx for listening anyway...

If some of the next firmware updates will correct the original problem (there are some updates in the pipeline) I will post it here...

[edit] 1 minute too late, hehe... ;-)

New info + Solution for all Users of Tevion DVD3000/DVD4000 and maybe Dalton Dvx 500 + Scott dvx i800 (should be similar to the Tevion, but I can't confirm that).

Although there was no firmware-update it is now possible to play XVid videos with custom matrixes on the mentioned DVD players! It's totally unlogical, but it does work:

Start your video, enter the menu and look for the option "VSS" (Virtual Surround Sound, it's placed on the second menu page on my player). Activate it by pressing up/down and wooooppppssss. The video should look fine now.
And it doesn't matter if you choose VSS or Stereo, it's only important that the option is activated/changed during playing the video.

So a sound option acivates support for custom matrixes on these players. Weird....

Greets, Filbert
