View Full Version : Fixing a corrupt mkv file?

I have a mkv file that crashes all my media players. I can open it up and play it in vdubmod and tried my usual trick of saving out again using direct stream copy (tried both ogm and mkv, it's a xvid + ogg file) but the resulting file does exactly the same thing.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

demux the audio stream and see if you can play that.
save the file with video only (avi, matroska, ogm) and then check again if you can play that.
maybe theres something wrong with one of the streams, you will find out this way.
can you play other matroska files?

Thanks for the reply, I'll give it a go.
I only have a couple of other mkv files, both play fine, one has AC3 audio, not sure about there other. I have the vorbis direct show filters installed though and of course, xvid, so I'm not sure what is going on. I'm going to guess the audio is the problem.

It was the video, except it wasn't corrupt. It occured to me I installed a new build of XviD a few days ago (I updated for anamorphic support) and was using that instead of ffdshow to decode. Switching back to ffdshow made it work and confirmed my suspicion.
I've installed the standard XviD now and it works too.
Thanks!
