Whats The Best Deinterlacer

I was wondering whats the best deinterlacer...... i.e. which gives the best picture results, the least ghosting, least blur etc....

is KernelDeInt any good.?

Wanna do some testing with some pal extras that are interlaced.

i think the other thread unfortunately deteriorated. i think it was a good thread, and i was sad to see it go this way. i think the subjects (i from p, and the comparisons methods) were interesting.

but this thread is a big no imho. i think that the subject should be further investigated on the ogirinal (2nd) thread.

i hope we can all handle such issues better in the future.

@kassandro: I know what your strategy is and other people have tried it, too and it never worked. So please cut it out before you open the floodgates of a river called strikes ;)

@everyone: I don't know how many times it has been said, but "what's best" is a question that's asked by an 8 year old. As you grow up, and we're mostly adults here, you know better than to oversimplify. Is a Porsche better than a Honda? That depends on the scenario, doesn't it? Same goes for deinterlacers and whatnot. You can compare the two, and nothing and nobody stops you from doing this right here in this very forum. There's no problem asking something like "I'm using filter X with settings a, b and c and I like the results, but recently I've used filter Y with settings d and e and I found that filter X is better at eliminating interlacing artifacts but the result seems to stutter a little, something which can't be said about Y. What are your experiences in that area?" Now that will start an intelligent conversation that won't descend into flamebaiting.

Comparison is actually a good thing, but you should go the extra mile about it. A statement like "X is better than Y" will just trigger a disagreement from the guy who likes Y better. But if you are objective about it, really compare the two intelligently, nobody can have your behind for it as everybody is entitled to have an opinion.. but you should try not to force it upon others, and a simple claim "X is better than Y" is often considered as forcing your opinion upon somebody else and that's what we're trying to prevent with rule12. You'll find a lot of discussion going on that is basically a "what's best" but it has been worded in a way that makes it intelligent and non-objectable. Maybe that requires you to dance around the subject a little, but is it such a bad thing?

Also know that I've had my share of flamewars over a simple question that had "what's best" in it, which is why this rule was created. It didn't come out of a moodswing, but of realization on how improperly worded questions can lead to flamewars erupting and that's what we're trying to prevent. If you have any better suggestions to go at this, that'll not result in the reducting of the very high discussion standard we enjoy here, feel free to let me know about it.
