Can anyone help me out finding good media? I used to buy TDK from Best Buy but the price went up and I'm looking for a better deal.

NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A
Instant CD/DVD
Win2K

Here's the media. The price seems to be too good to be true - what's the catch?

Never mind, those are DVD-R.

How about these?

I have no experience with Ritek, but it seems that every month the TDK at Best Buy goes on sale (25 discs for $25). Perhaps wait for the the sale and then stock up. The TDK discs I get at my Best Buy are media code RICOH and I never had a problem with one yet.

@Morlock

Ritek media seems about as reliable as anything else I've tried. I usually get mine from Rima.com.

We have found that BeAll makes an AWESOME disc at Ritek pricing... We use it exclusively now to do all our operating system back ups for clients... real happy with the quality.

geffroman are we talking DVD+R or DVD-R? I just bought a new burner that'll burn both, but I'd rather stay with DVD+R since my old burner only burns DVD+R. I'll probably switch whenever I put it out to pasture since DVD-Rs are less expensive.

If BeAll has a DVD+R disc, where do you buy in bulk?

edit: nm on the DVD+R question, I see that they do make DVD+R.

We have used both the DVD-R and DVD+R BeAll discs... There have now released a DVD-R 16x for a great price too... Just click the DVD Media link from our site if you want to review the supplier we use...

IME Ritek media varies between medium and high quality. Some of their 4x media is "grade A" RICOHJPNR01 (my last 2 spools :D), other RITEK R03 (i.e. 8x media sold as 4x, possibly QC rejects).

All these name brands sell various stuffs... go with Taiyo Yuden or another similar OEM media if you want to be sure what you're getting.

However, There has been junk/knock off Taiyo thrown on the market as well... I've never seen this problem with BeAll (A Samsung company)...

I should revise/clarify my post... I meant RiData (Ritek's consumer brand name). Ritek is an OEM like Taiyo Yuden and makes their own disks, but clearly also sells some Ricoh media (and maybe others) under the RiData name.

So anyway, in reference to "my last 2 spools" above it's really referring to Ricoh media. At least the "RICOHJPN-R01" media code I find to be very good quality stuff. Probably the -R02 (8x) is just as good, although I haven't tried it.

Re: Ritek-made media... haven't tried it, and have seen mixed reviews around the Net.

The 4x? Where they printables? I tried a set of the 4x dvd+r silver printable. The were horrible. Very bad scans burned with both my BenQ 1620 and NEC 3500. Maybe I got a bad batch, whats your opinion?

Never used printables... I know they have big government contracts and have passed lots of testing and offer 60 day money back guarantees... at least through our supplier... we go through about 500 a month at the office and probably another 1000 or 1500 for local clients and I have never had enough bad burns to waste time sending any back...

We stick with Pioneer burners...
