ok, encoded matrix revolutions using gknot with xvid as my codec. the 2 pass encode was done in like 25 minutes! i was all like "holy sh*t" then i look at the output avi, its like 160megs. i load it up in winamp, and it reports itsel to be 6 and a half minutes in length. I'm thinking, maybe it only encoded the first vob or something, i play it, the whole movie is there but flying through the movie at like 6x speed. the audio is normal. wait, i just checked, i have french over english simultaneously. thats an easy fix though, i know what i did wrong there. anyway, here is my gknot log. any help, please? thanks, this site rocks!

9:44:08 PM: WARNING: Difference: 177778 The .d2v has 187144 frames (2 hours, 10 minutes, 5 seconds @ 23.976 fps). The .avs has only 9366 frames (6 minutes, 31 seconds @ 23.976 fps). This is 5% of the calculated size.My guess? The .avs you are using, F:\Movie Rip\Matrix\revolutions.avs, is incorrectly set up for a conpressibility test.

Open the .avs in a text editor. In a normal .avs, the compressibility test "SelectRangeEvery(280,14)" is preceeded with a "#" to disable it. In your .avs, I'm guessing that the "#" is missing (which enables the test).

If not, then open the .avs in VirtualDubMod (File...Open) and then check the frame count (File....Information).

Well, it was a guess, due to the 5% completion.

There are a couple of other possibilities:

It might be the release of XviD you are using: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67750&highlight=xvid+1.0

Another possibility is a failure of VdubMod that caused it to end early. You can check your WinXP event logs for error messages at or near 5/19 9:44:08 and see if VdubMod ended with an error. And to check to see whether or not it is a problem with the source, you could also "play" your .avs through the 9300s and see if there's some sort of error in the source near frame 9366. Re-running the encoding and having another "short" encode, but with a different frame count, would lead me to think hardware instability.

Rerunning the job with your existing .avs is pretty easy. On the Encoder tab, click the "Add Job" button.

ok, uhm, the log i posted above was actually from a re-encode that i did. i poked around my machine and found the avs from the original encode, and, in fact, like you said, "SelectRangeEvery(280,14" had no # in front of it. but here is a new problem, the re-encode played at normal speed and looked GREAT but the audio was about 20 seconds out of sync. 20 seconds happens to be the same length as the FBI warning crap, so i am thinking this is the problem, so i open the file in nandub, and try to delete the frames containing the FBI thingy and re save it, when i play it back, the video doensnt move at all, the audio is fine, and i can jump through the video using winamp and it loads scene after scene, which all show motion for about half a second and then still. meanwhile, the audio continues to run appropriately. WTF? by the way, the vobs i am using had to be ftp'd from my xbox to the pc and then have vstrip run on them, since smartripper and dvd decrypter gave errors on the disc as did the internal ripping routines of dvd2svcd (which, i believe, is decrypter). i have done this succesfully in the past.

You must use IFO mode with DVD Decrypter or Smartripper for use in GKnot, if you want to avoid sync problems. If you use IFO mode, you should never see an "FBI Thingy."

well, there you have it. its a source problem. my memorex dvd burner has been acting like a piece of sh*t since i put in a new MOBO. The mobo is itself a piece of sh*t which i threw in there quick cuz it was cheap and my good board sh*t the bed. I guess i'll get my hardware in order and try again. its weird though, it reads some discs and not others.
hey, what if i could ftp the raw data over from the xbox to the pc, make an iso out of it, mount it on a virtual drive and point the ripper to the virt drive? i guess i wont know till i try. thanks for your help jggimi. i truly appreciate all the mods help. peace
