Sony TRV16-E , question

Am new to dv capture. Was given this mini dv camcorder, but no manual. Am I right in thinking that this records an ntsc signal even though it is the European model? Is there any way to find out? I wasn't going to bother with a firewire card as I have a hardware mpeg2 card.
The unit has a menu function which allows ntsc playback on pal tv, but I don't think that affects the transfer signal does it?
If anyone has used this camcorder I would be grateful for any instructions on transfer and conversion to dvd.

Sorry, mine is a DCR TRV-16E and I found a manual on the web. Trouble is it's for the trv16 which is the model for outside Europe.
