View Full Version : Broken Movie

Currently I have a friend's Xvid encode on my computer and when I load the OGM (with an AC3 and SRT sub channel) into VDubMod, I get an error on frame 0 and every subsequent frame. If I try to do anything with the file (save as direct stream copy, save the audio or srt) Vdub crashes (including the most current version. I wanted to know if there were any applications to go through the file to fix any broken frames or a program that is able to salvage the file?
PS - The file is playable in WMP
Edit: With some testing, I found out that FFDshow renders the file just fine, however, when I switch to Xvid rendering, WMP freezes and performs an illegal error. Are there any other codecs that can render Xvid video for VDubMod and WMP?

Newer ffdshow builds have an vfw interface through which they can decode xvid as well. Just use some recent build from athos ( http://athos.leffe.dnsalias.com/ ) and set it up properly.

is there a tutorial or guide on how to use the VFW interface?

Launch the VFW configuration then go to the Decoder Tab.
Select Codecs and search for Xvid in the supported codecs table.
Ensure to select libavcodec decoder for xvid.
Apply the changes and Xvid will be decoded by FFVFW.

Doesn't work for me. XviD still gets decoded by XviD in Vdub.
Perhaps kakomu could try to mux to MKV with MKVmerge, and force the fourcc to FVFW (or FFDS) ?
Or, can the fourcc be changed within an OGM file? Should be easy with a hex-editor, but I never tried that with an OGM ...

I figured out how to get VDub to use Xvid to decode, however, is there a guide on all the other latent features that are a little more obscure?

AFAIK, VfW just chooses which decoder to use by looking at the FourCC in the file, so you'd have to rewrite the VfW registry entry for XviD to point at the ffdshow dll. Or you can change the FourCC to FVFW.
