start-end frame help

hi, i want to make my smallville series file smaller by making a start frame and end frame but everytime i do that and save as avi the file size becomes 2 gig. does anyone know what im doing wrong? what settings do i have to use?

My guess, you save it decompressed.
Make sure to set 'Video'->'Direct stream copy' before saving. If you leave it 'Full processing mode' (default) without compression (default), you save uncompressed version of your movie.
