Audio in synch but slow?

Please forgive me if this has been addressed elsewhere but I have spent the last three days looking for a post that might explain this to me.
When I make an svcd backup of ANY of my movies I have a problem with the audio sounding slower than normal when played on my standalone dvd player. If I play it on the dvd player in my pc it sounds fine. I assume I am doing something incorrectly as I am new to dvd2svcd and making backups. Any explanation or advice would be greatly appreciated.:D
Oh, my standalone player is a Cyberhome CH-DVD-300.

Ahhh thank you for the link. I was unaware of that site. I will give a read through on what I find there.
