access error probably in your case (permissions to the output dir).

I'm new to using AutoGK. I personally fought with that error over and over and couldn't figure out why it happened. I tried every fix I could find to no avail. As a last resort I created a new destination directory off the root of my storage drive specifically for AutoGK and it worked.

Initially want I was trying to do was have the processed videos in a subdirectory of the location of the MPEG files.
E.g.

F:\mpegs\ (Location of source files)
F:\mpegs\compressed\ (Destination)

This setup resulted in the Virtualdub error every time.

Once I changed to
F:\compressed\

It worked.

So it seems to me that if any other program is doing something with that directory / subdirectory then virtualdub will fail (at least in WindowsXP SP2 for me)

I've got a similar problem, and it seems to be related to switching between accessing a file via UNC path, then by drive letter, then when you try UNC again it's broken... check out this log file:

5342

I don't understand... nothing (to my knowledge) changed on my system between these runs; it just spontanously BROKE. This has happened to me before, so you can probably recreate the error for yourself, unless there's just something broken on my system... which is entirely feasible.

(bump)

Nice. Thanks, everyone, for all your help on this. I posted this question TWO FREAKIN' MONTHS AGO.

The only workarounds I've come up with is reinstalling AutoGK to fix this error, and mapping drive letters to the path(s) I want to work with (extremely inelegant, yet effective).

I can't figure a good reason why UNC paths seem to be not supported, they seem to work (at first) but then it breaks the program semi-permanently it seems... or it has in all my testing... why is this; does no one have more than one computer in the house? I can't believe that...

(bump again) six months after my first post... Notice that ALL the messages I have posted thus far are in THIS THREAD!!!! :(

HELLO!!!!! IS THIS THING ON????? Anyone here? Anyone give a rat's behind about my problem? Apparently NOT!!!!

AutoGK once again broke on me... and I am mapping a drive letter, and I do have r/w access... the comptest AVI file works perfectly in both Zoom Player and GSpot. I do not understand at all what is broken.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am at my wits' end here!!!!!!! Maybe suggest a program that is not flawed like this?

Hi,

I have the same problem, happens to me all the time, I think it has happend about 5 times in the last month to me.

All I do when this error happens, I reinstall AutoGK, and it will work for a day or two, then AutoGK fails again.

So, maybe someone has already deeper debugged into this? I think this must be some bug in AutoGK, since it happens to so many people. Are there any news about this strange problem? Any Alternative programs to AutoGK?

Thx.

I've been getting this "Exception: Open AVI failed" a lot recently. At first thought it was because I was running LimeWire too, so I stopped that. When the problem returned, I thought it might be because I had the folder open, so I changed my output folders. Then it still did it, so I looked online, and here it said to try the proxyon and proxyoff files, so I did, to no avail.

Then I ran the auxsetup.exe in the vdubmod folder of AGK. I remember that the old times I setup a new PC install, this would come up automatically, but I haven't seen it in recent installs. So I tried this. I still get the exception after the compressibility test (sometimes it waited until later in the process, once even during the final stage, and I was able to use lastjob.vcf to finish the movie, but not predictably, and not because of this step).

It seems to work fine right after a reboot, and before any error appears, but once I get an error, almost all inputs give me the same error. I have one movie that ALWAYS gives me errors (Gross Pointe Blank). If I setup 5 movies, with GPB in the middle, the 2 before will work, and the 2 after will fail, along with GPB.

Currently, I am loading the ifo's from the dvd-video folder, and saving in the dvd parent folder, which creates an agk-tmp folder, avi, and log file next to the dvd-video folder. Again, this worked long enough to appear to correct the problem, until the error returned.

I agree that it looks like an access error, but I am able to play the comptest file. I am using Xvid, and usually avoid even installing divxPro, but allowed it to install with the latest AGK package. Is it possible this is related?

Thanks for a great forum, which I've loved for years. (I backed up my first DVD in 2000 with flask before going totally ala carte, then used nandub SBC for a while, tinkered with FairUse, and then used GordianKnot, then AGK, extensively.) I'm not a noob, but I am struggling with this latest iteration of AGK, at times.

Thanks for the clues - soon we'll have a solution, I'm sure. :thanks:

The most common thread so far, seems to be accessing the output folder, which somehow locks up files to not be modified. I've even found it impossible to move good files (or delete bad files) until I close AGK. Though lately WMP has allowed me to rename files that are playing, which it didn't do before. Related? I don't know - so let's hear from the pros!

I agree that it looks like an access error, but I am able to play the comptest file.

I don't know if it is related, but maybe explorer.exe is trying to create some thumbnails in the background.... you might try disabling the thumbnails completely via (Start -> Run)
regsvr32.exe /u shmedia.dll

To get them back
regsvr32.exe shmedia.dll

Let us know if it helped.

Pleae stop shouting!
I'm doing encodes with AutoGk over networks for years.
No trouble at all.
Even using different OS's didn't break this.(NTFS <-> Fat32)
So obviously something is burked at your side.
Just tested a few minutes ago....:)

Hello everyone!

I definitely need help here ...
I was using AutoGK for a long time on my notebook - and i like it a lot .... now have installed it on my main PC - and cannot get it work somehow.

No separate codecs installed, just downloaded last DivX to be able to decode to it also.

are you able to play ..._comptest.avi from agk_tmp dir? I bet you're not...

Goraclus
25th September 2007, 18:47
how much u bet? :) Cause i have read all comments were here before - and yes, i can play it.

at the time of converting getting following pop-up sometimes:
Video compression error:
The source image format is not acceptable (error code - 2)

First of all i thought it was about space ... cleared HDD.
Made WMP main player, comptest is playing and working

Second error clearly indicates problem with codecs install...

Any possibility to clear them ? DivX removed .. still same problem ... no other Codec packs were installed

I'm still not clear which error are you getting consistently every time: "error opening avi" or error code -2 ?

I am having the same problem. I did not have this problem earlier when I still had 1.60 installed. This only happened since I upgraded to the latest version, being 2.45

Mountain Cat 1M

I uninstalled 2.45 and reinstalled 1.60 that I had here and it works great again. Odd.

Somewhere the codec stores messed up settings, which autogk doesnt reset. If you load vitualdubmod, go to compession, divx, and configure, then reset to defaults and apply/save/exit - whatever - the problem goes away until the next time its left it a funky state.

kimblebear

I appear to be getting the same problem as other people, using version 2.45

It appears to lock up after I have used VobSub on it's own to remove some logos

I've tried everything I've seen in this thread but it doesn't appear to help.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing but still get the same error.

The last time this happened, a couple of weeks ago, I was able to recover by using a system restore. Unfortunately I am not able to do that this time.

Any thoughts

I also just came across this problem. In my case AutoGK was detecting the incorrect AR. I canceled the job and forced the correct AR, then proceeded with the encode and received the error. I was able to play the comptest avi. I fixed the issue with a reboot. If it helps, here's the log:

I'm still having major problems with this - cannot get it to work ( I've built hundreds of avi's over the past few years) - are you saying the fault is indicated by the ? after out_height = (hmod > 4)

If so, what exactly did you do to correct the fault?

I can already play the comptest.avi - but rebooting seems to make no difference and I still get exactly the same error
