Just bought a Lite-On 5001 DVD recorder. The recorder spits out the typical VIDEO_TS and VTS_01_0, etc...files. I can rip the files to my hard drive using DVD Decrypter, but when I try to open them with DVD Shrink 3.1.7.6 I get an I/O operation failure. Two streams at once. Any ideas on a work around or is this impossible. Also, the Lite-On recorder uses MPEG audio instead of PCM. Not sure if that makes a difference. I also tried DVD Shrink 2.3 and it will preview the video, then immediately crash.

The recorder probably produces non-standard VOB files or MPEG video stream. In both cases, you have two choices: try to demux the VOB files and re-author the DVD, which may still not be enough if the video stream is non-standard/defective, or return the recorder.

Using MP2 instead of PCM audio is normal since it takes less space. However, it's allowed by the standards only for PAL, not NTSC DVD.
