AIW 9800 Pro Capturing problems

Hello,

I have some rare VHS tapes from Japan that i want to convert to DVD. When i try to record i get a macro protection message. I used Virtual Dub, and i got a green screen(obviously the macroprotection) over my video.

I visited the lordsmurf page but all the disable macro exes do not work. later i found out that these patches will not work with my 9800.
Any suggestions??

Buy a separate box that removes it from the signal in between VCR and PC.

There is software that will allow you to bypass the ATI macrovision detection. Do a search.

Another way I heard is to make a tv monitor as the main display and the CPU monitor the secondary.

As far as I have been able to find, and I've Googled at LOT, there is no software patch for the AIW9800Pro. There are several patches for some of the older boards, but none for the 9800.

I dug out an old "scrubber" which I had purchased > 10 years ago. It is a really simple box which contains ONE digital integrated circuit and a small handfull of discreet components. It cost me like $30 US way back then, and it works pretty well.

The only problem with it is when the scene shifts to something really bright, then the image becomes thorughly washed out!. I am trying to convert this tape which I have which includes footage of someone drawing on a white-board. Whenever the scene focuses on the white-board, the image becomes unwatchable (totally washed out!).

Can anyoneone suggest how to correct this problem, short of clipping out the white-board areas and doing a gamma correction on them, and then re-inserting them?

Also, reference the 9800 series board, is it still a SOFTWARE issue about macrovision, or has it been changed to a HARDWARE issue?

Well, I managed to fix MY problem.

While the Macro Scrubber that I bought > 10 years ago DID remove Macrovision, it thoughly screwed over the AGC (I suspect) causing the bright scenes (i.e. the White Board) to get totally fubarred.

I stopped at a Best Buy today and plunged for the Sima CT-2 (GoDVD!) @ $130. Yeah, I know, I coulda got it cheaper on the internet, but I was too impatient to wait. First test with it appears to be working great. The bright scenes appear correct with respect to the normal scenes, and there are NO discernable remnants of the Macrovision noticeable!

I now have a setup which does what I wanted, and appears to do it correctly. So, I guess I can pack up the Pinnacle MovieBox USB2, and forget about wasting my $200 on it. At least it gave me 10 months of "fun"! <Insert sarcasm here>.
